16 Softball Student-Athletes Named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes

NFCA Announces Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes and Team Honorees

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team was recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for its stellar performance in the classroom for the 2022-23 academic year, while 16 Spartans were individually named Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes.

For each student-athlete to be named an NFCA Scholar-Athlete, they must have achieved a 3.5 or better cumulative GPA for the 2022-23 academic year. The Spartans posted a 3.62 GPA as a team for the 2022-23 academic year.

The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association's membership categories. NCAA Division I led the way with 2,515 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2022-23.

Within the Southern Conference (SoCon), Furman was the only other school to receive the academic recognition for the 2022-23 year.

As a team, the Spartans had the 27
th best GPA for 2022-23 out of 172 schools that received the NFCA team award.

UNCG concluded the 2023 season with a 37-22 overall record and a 13-4 Southern Conference (SoCon) mark. For the 20th time in program history and eighth time in Head Coach
Janelle Breneman's 11 years at the helm, the Spartans won 30 or more games. The Spartans won the 2023 SoCon Regular Season and 2023 SoCon Tournament titles to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. This was the third time in six years that the Spartans made an appearance at an NCAA Regional.
