Women’s Soccer Falls 2-1 to George Washington

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team took a 2-1 loss to George Washington (GW) on Sunday afternoon at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCG struck first in Sunday's matchup with a shot from Morgan Brubaker that was saved by GW's goalkeeper, Rose Hermans.

GW's Aoi Kataoka gave the Revolutionaries a 1-0 lead at 11:46 after intercepting a Spartan pass and taking Emma Malone on one-on-one. The Revolutionaries would get on the board first for the only goal of the first half.

Malone recorded one save for the Blue & Gold, which came at the 21:27 mark.

GW continued its momentum in the second half extending the lead to 2-0 with a goal from Isabel Kelly thanks to a cross from Charlotte Li, who was outside the 18-yard box on the left side, in the 55th minute.

UNCG cut the deficit to one, 2-1 at 67:08, as Bailey Gourdine set up Mel Herrera in the Spartans' attacking third. Herrera received the ball outside the 18-yard box on the left side and beat her defender lofting the ball just enough to hit the underneath of the crossbar for her second goal of her career. Ava Kiss had the best chance for the Spartans before the final horn, volleying the ball with her right foot just outside the 18-yard box that clipped the right post in the 85th minute. The Spartans would have two more shots in the game, but none would find the back of the net.
