Ray Soldano Softball Announces 2023 Team Awards 8/31/2023 1:35:00 PM By: Denise Archetto, Assistant Athletic Director of Strategic Communications GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team ended the 2023 season with highlights to remember: The Spartans' sixth-straight SoCon regular season crown UNCG's third SoCon Tournament title in five years The third NCAA Tournament appearance in five years and seventh overall bid A 37-22 overall mark and 13-4 record in conference play, the eighth 30-plus win season under Head Coach Janelle Breneman Heading into her 12th season as Head Coach, Janelle Breneman looks back on the 2023 season in announcing the end of the year awards. These awards are voted on by Spartan team members. 2022-23 TEAM 38 Rookie of the Year Award Awarded to the player that has made the most impact on the team as a first-year player. Rhyann Jones Spartan Softball Way Award Awarded to the player that displays leadership qualities on and off the playing field. She is selfless, respectful, competitive and inspirational. She makes those around her better. Delaney Cumbie Most Outstanding Offense Award Awarded to the player that has been a consistent force at the plate throughout the season. Jorde Chartrand Most Outstanding Defensive Award Awarded to the player that has been the most solid on defense making the routine plays as wells as the outstanding ones. Brooklynn Maxwell Most Valuable Pitcher Award Awarded to the pitcher who has excelled on the mound and has made significant contributions at her position. Her performances have been most valuable to the successes of the team. Maddie Spell Most Valuable Player Award Awarded to the player that has made the most significant impact on the success of the team. Brooklynn Maxwell Scholar Athlete Award Awarded to the player that maintains the highest GPA for the academic year.
