HIGH POINT, N.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer freshman
Keanan Bader scored his first-collegiate goal in a 3-1 loss to High Point University Saturday night at Vert Stadium in non-conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers hopped on the board within the first five minutes of play following their second corner kick of the game. In the fourth minute, UNCG set up inside the box to clear the inswinger, but Tony Pineda collected the loose ball outside the 18-yard box. Pineda, from the right side of the box, chipped the ball into Alex Abril for the side volley into the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage at 3:27.
The Spartans' only shot of the first half was by
Maxwel De-Bodene which was blocked. With seven minutes left in the first half, the Spartans had a defensive miscue that allowed High Point to double its score for a 2-0 lead.
Following the break, the Panthers capitalized on another corner kick in the 59
th minute, as Finn McRobb headed the ball to the back of the net with an assist from Jefferson Amaya for a 3-0 lead. About six minutes later, UNCG cut the deficit to two with
Keanan Bader's first-collegiate goal, a left-footed strike from just outside the 18-yard box, 3-1. High Point connected for one more shot in the remaining 24 minutes, while UNCG tallied three of its six total shots in the final time.
