GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team finished its regular season non-conference play against East Carolina (ECU), in a 1-0, loss at the UNCG Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pirates came out strong dominating possession in their offensive third in the first 10 minutes. In the 11
th minute, ECU's Lucy Fazackerly took the ball up the left flank into the Spartans defensive zone. Fazackerley found space and sent a through ball to Sydney Schnell who beat her defender one-on-one inside the 18-yard box for a left-footed strike to put the Pirates up 1-0. The Two teams continued fighting for possession for the remainder of the half and UNCG tallied back-to-back shots including a strike from
Rachel Poplin that went wide right of the goal before the horn.
The Pirates earned three corners in the first six minutes of the second half. ECU connected for two shots on goal with UNCG's
Emma Malone making both stops in the net. The Spartans followed with five of their seven total shots in the frame.
