SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team took a 3-0 loss to Wofford (17-25, 19-25, 22-25) in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Friday night in Spartanburg, South Carolina, at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Terriers got out to a 5-2 run to start set one, never allowing the Spartans to lead in the game. Despite Wofford maintaining control, UNCG was able to hold the Terriers at set point for two rallies. However, Wofford eventually secured the first set, 25-17.
Wofford continued its momentum into the second set by notching a 6-0 run to get things going. However, UNCG responded with a 5-0 run of its own to come back within one, 6-5. The second set remained close and was tied on several occasions. With the game tied at 18, the Terriers posted a 7-1 run to claim the second set, 25-19.
A kill from
Emily Hanlon followed by an attack error from the Terriers gave the Spartans the 2-0 lead to start the third set for their first lead of the match. Wofford came back with a 4-0 run later to tie the game, 5-5. The third game would continue to go back-and-forth until late. With UNCG on top 15-14, Wofford notched a 5-0 run to take the 19-15 lead. Allie Sweet and an attack error from Wofford put the Spartans back within one, 22-21. However, Wofford held its lead for the remainder of the third set to earn it, 25-22, for the 3-0 win.
