GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team continues its nine-game road trip this weekend, playing five games part of the I-75 Tournament. The Spartans will open the tournament with Army West Point on Friday, February 23 at 11 a.m. and follow that game with host Georgia Tech at 2:00 p.m. at the Shirley Clements Mewborn Field.

The Spartans will also face Robert Morris and Kennesaw State during the tournament. The Spartans are 5-8 overall.

RUNDOWN ON THE SPARTANS

• UNCG was chosen to finish first in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Spartans received four first-place votes.
• Senior Brooklynn Maxwell, redshirt-junior Maddie Spell, and junior Jorde Chartrand were named to the SoCon Preseason first team.
• Junior Grace Loftin and sophomore Rhyann Jones were named to the SoCon Preseason second team.
• UNCG won its sixth-straight SoCon Regular Season title in 2023.
• The Spartans won their third SoCon Tournament Championship in route to the program's seventh NCAA Tournament bid.
• This was their third ticket to the NCAA Tournament in six years.
• Maycin Brown and Blayke Batten return for their fifth year in the Blue & Gold.
• UNCG added five freshmen and one transfer to the 2024 roster.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS

• UNCG is coming off a 6-4 loss to North Carolina on Wednesday in Chapel Hill, N.C.
• Chartrand hit two home runs in the game for her third-career multi-home run game.
• Chartrand was the only Spartan with multiple hits in the game, swinging 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
• Maxwell, Jessie Shipley, Loftin, and Maycin Brown each had one hit.
• Loftin tallied the Spartans' other two RBI with her second double of the season.

RUNDOWN ON ARMY

• Army finished the 2023 season 22-37 overall and 10-8 in the Patriot League.
• The Black Knights were voted to finish third in the 2024 Patriot League Preseason Poll, receiving one first-place vote.
• Taylor Brown and Kayla Edwards were voted to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team.
• Army enters the weekend 0-10 overall.
• The Black Knights competed in the NFCA Leadoff Classic where they faced then ranked #13 Oregon and #16 Utah.
• They also competed in the Panther Invitational, battling then-ranked #10 Duke twice.
• Edwards is leading the team with a .313 batting average, swinging 10-for-32.
• Ashton White is pacing the Black Knights with seven RBI.
• White and Caitlyn Newburn each have hit one home run.

• Georgia Tech finished the 2023 season 26-27 overall and 7-17 in the ACC.
• Georgia Tech was voted to finish eighth in the 2024 ACC Preseason Poll.
• The Yellow Jackets are currently 4-7 overall, facing four ranked opponents this season.
• Gracyn Tucker is pacing the Yellow Jackets with a .533 batting average, swining 8-for-15 at the plate.
• Madison Dobbins and Mallorie Black each have tallied eight RBI.
• Black and Reese Hunter lead the team with four home runs each.
• Black paces the team with 10 runs scored.
• Blake Neleman has tossed 17.2 innings in seven appearances this season, pacing the pitching staff with 22 strikeouts.

• Robert Morris finished the 2023 season 24-23 overall and 14-8 in the Horizon League.
• The Colonials were voted to finish third in the 2024 Horizon League Preseason Poll.
• Robert Morris is 1-3 to start the 2024 season.
• The Colonials defeated George Mason, 4-3, for their lone win thus far, playing in the Terrier Invite, hosted by first-year team Wofford.
• Meadow Sacadura is leading the team with a .364 batting average.
• Avery Winchell has tallied two RBI to lead the team.
• Winchell and Anna Resnick have each hit a home run.
• Madison DeVault has tossed 10.2 innings in the circle, striking out 11 batters. She has a 1-1 record.

RUNDOWN ON KENNESAW STATE

• Kennesaw State finished the 2023 season 20-32 overall and 11-13 in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
• The Owls were voted to finish fifth in the ASUN Preseason Coaches Poll.
• Stella Henry was voted to the Preseason All-ASUN Team.
• Kennesaw State is 2-8 overall to start the 2024 season.
• Kassidy Amerson-Fox is leading the team with a .379 batting average, swinging 11-for-29 with seven RBI and four runs scored.
• Amerson-Fox and Carolina Shumeyko each have two home runs on the season.
• Henry is 6-for-7 in stolen bases, while Madison Miller is 5-for-5.
• Melanie Bennett has thrown 21.1 innings, striking out 12 batters, while Kenley Hilleary has tossed 20.1 innings, retiring 20 batters.
