GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team returns to play with an early weekend three-game series against Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Furman on Friday and Saturday at the UNCG Softball Stadium.

The Spartans are currently 19-14 overall and 3-0 in SoCon play, while the Paladins are 17-15 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

RUNDOWN ON THE SPARTANS

• Maxwell is pacing the Spartans with a .435 batting average, 35 RBI, and 12 home runs.
• Grace Loftin is second on the team with 22 RBI, while Shipley is second with a .375 batting average.
• Maxwell is pacing the Spartans with a .435 batting average, .922 slugging percentage, 37 runs scored, 50 hits, 35 RBI, 115 at bats, and 89 assists.
• Maxwell is ranked nationally in the top 10 in five categories: second in hits and total bases, fourth in triples, eighth in home runs, and eighth in slugging percentage.
• Jessie Shipley is 23^rd in the nation with 11 doubles.
• The Spartans are in the top 50 nationally in three categories: 10^th in home runs per game (1.52), 11^th in walks (129), and 25^th in slugging percentage (0.510).  
• Salem Ward is pacing the Spartans' pitching staff with 43 strikeouts in 48.1 innings of work with a 1.88 ERA.
• Rhyann Jones is second on the team with 42 strikeouts in 67.0 innings.
• Maddie Spell was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 26), while Anna White was named SoCon Player of the Week (Feb. 26).
• On March 11, Brooklynn Maxwell was named SoCon Player of the Week and Salem Ward was tabbed SoCon Pitcher of the Week.
• UNCG was chosen to finish first in SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Spartans received four first-place votes.
• Senior Brooklynn Maxwell, redshirt-junior Maddie Spell, and junior Jorde Chartrand were named to the SoCon Preseason first team.
• Junior Grace Loftin and sophomore Rhyann Jones were named to the SoCon Preseason second team.
• UNCG won its sixth-straight SoCon Regular Season title in 2023.
• The Spartans won their third SoCon Tournament Championship in route to the program's seventh NCAA Tournament bid.
• This was their third ticket to the NCAA Tournament in six years.
• Maycin Brown and Blayke Batten return for their fifth year in the Blue & Gold.
• UNCG added five freshmen and one transfer to the 2024 roster.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS

• UNCG is coming off a SoCon series sweep against ETSU with scores of 9-0, 8-1, and 5-1.
• The Spartans tallied seven home runs during the series, as well as 30 hits.
• Two of the three games had double figure hits for UNCG.
• The Spartans have now had nine games with double-digit hits.

• Furman was voted to finish fourth in the 2024 Preseason SoCon Coaches' Poll.
• Kiley Perry was voted the SoCon Preseason Player of the Year and to the Preseason first team.
• Ashlee Lykins was also voted to the first team, while Alex Rose Molinar, Caitlin Goldwait, and Sylvia Burroughs were selected to the second team.
• Furman is coming off a doubleheader split against USC Upstate.
• The Paladins have won the last seven of eight games, including a SoCon sweep over Western Carolina.
• Lykins is currently pacing the Paladins with a .378 batting average, 42 hits, and going 13-for-14 in stolen bases.
• Perry is leading Furman with 22 RBI, five home runs, and has a .320 batting average.
• In the circle, Sierra Tufts has 45 strikeouts in 76.2 innings thrown and an 8-4 record with three complete games.
• Lauralee Scott has a 2.74 ERA with a 6-1 record in 46.0 innings of work and 26 strikeouts.
• Furman is nationally ranked 31^st in walks (111) and 47^th in total stolen bases (46).
