GREENSBORO, Ga. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team finished The 2024 Southern Conference (SoCon) Championship in third place at Reynolds Plantation on Tuesday.
UNCG's third place finish on Tuesday was its best placing at the SoCon Championship since earning second place in the 2021-22 season.
Two Spartans finished in the top-10 in this year's conference tournament. The 2021-22 season was also the last time two Spartans finished in the top-10 of the leaderboard for UNCG.
TEAM
- UNCG concluded the tournament with an eight-under-par (856) after recording rounds of 290-283-283.
- ETSU took home first place with a 30-under-par (834), while Chattanooga finished runner-up with a 28-under-par (836).
- UNCG finished ahead of Furman, Mercer, Wofford, Samford and Western Carolina in that order.
- As a team, the Spartans finished the three-round tournament with 169 pars, 49 birdies and two eagles.
INDIVIDUAL
- Symon Balbin finished atop the leaderboard for the Spartans after pacing the squad all three days. Balbin notched his best score of the tournament on Tuesday with a three-under-par (69). The Pinehurst, N.C., native finished in a tie for sixth place with a six-under-par (210).
- Balbin was the second-best player on the field in pars with 40.
- Randall Hudson followed closely behind Balbin in a ninth-place finish with a two-under-par (214). Hudson's best score of the tournament came in the second round with a three-under-par (69).
- Noah Connor and Kelvin Hernandez both finished in a tie for 15th place with a two-over-par (218) overall score. Hernandez notched the best round score for the Spartans at the event with a four-under-par (68) in round two. Connor's best score over three days came in the final round with a one-under-par (71).
- Tommy Lamb came in to sub out Jack Marcotte in the final round with Lamb carding a one-under-par (71) in the third round.
