United Soccer Coaches Announces Team Academic Award Winners

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 2023-24 UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team was awarded its 10th United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, as announced by the organization last week. UNCG had a 3.34 GPA for the 2023-24 academic year, marking the fifth-straight year that the Spartans have received the honor.

The award, which was initiated in 1996, honors collegiate and high school men's and women's soccer teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.00 cumulative team grade-point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.

United Soccer Coaches recognized 457 teams, 188 men and 269 women. Of that total, 112 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized which included the UNCG women's soccer team with its 3.69 GPA. The Spartans were joined by Furman and Mercer as the only three Southern Conference (SoCon) men's soccer teams to make the list this year.

The 2023-24 Spartan squad had eleven members named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll for having a 3.0 GPA or higher and four earned Commissioner's Medals for earning a 3.8 or higher throughout the year. In the fall, six were named to the SoCon Fall Academic All-Conference Team for carrying a 3.3 cumulative GPA at the conclusion of the fall semester and competing in at least half of their teams' competitions. Ethan Conley, Yoshiya Okawa and Colton Sessoms were selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® team in November for having a 3.5 cumulative GPA and having played in at least 50 percent of the team's games.

UP NEXT: The 2024 squad concludes its exhibition slate with one final game on Saturday at Wake Forest at 7:00 p.m., before hosting USC Upstate in the season opener on Aug. 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
