GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team travels to Charlottesville, Virginia, to take on the Virginia Cavaliers (UVA) on Monday at 7:00 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium.
UNCG, which broke into the
TopDrawerSoccer Top 25 Rankings at No. 22 last Monday, is 3-1-3 after drawing for a second straight game against a ranked opponent in No. 5 West Virginia, 2-2, last Tuesday on the road. Before that, the Spartans played to a scoreless tie at home against No. 19 Charlotte on Sept. 13.

THE SPARTANS LAST TIME OUT
- The Spartans' most recent game against High Point was postponed in the 33rd minute due to inclement and has not been rescheduled
- In their last full match, the Spartans traveled to face No. 5 West Virginia, which ended in a 2-2 draw on Sept. 17 in Morgantown, West Virginia.
- Sophomore forward Arnaud Tattevin scored in the sixth minute to tie it, 1-1. Senior midfielder Yoshiya Okawa assisted on the goal for his team-leading third helper of the season.
- Fifth-year forward Mikey Ketteman scored the second equalizer to make it 2-2 in the 59th minute.
- Redshirt sophomore Seth Wilson made two saves, one in each half.
- UNCG owned a 3-2 advantage in second-half corner kicks, but trailed 7-3 in total.
- After trailing 11-3 in shots in the first half, UNCG bounced back to tie WVU in the second half, 4-4.
- Wilson, Jack Birch, Daniel Longo and Emmanuel Hagan played the whole match.
UNCG QUICK KICKS
- UNCG is 3-1-3 overall to begin the season after facing three top-25 programs in its first seven games.
- The Spartans faced No. 16 Georgetown on the road and fell 1-0 on Aug. 30 before drawing, 0-0, at home against No. 19 Charlotte on Sept. 13 and tying No. 5 West Virginia on the road, 2-2, last Tuesday.
- UNCG was ranked No. 22 in last Monday in the TopDrawerSoccer Men's College Soccer National Rankings.
- The Spartans have appeared in the United Soccer Coaches Poll twice this season. UNCG broke into the first poll of the regular season on Aug. 27 at No. 18 before receiving votes three weeks ago.
- Among national statistical categories, the Spartans stand within the top 20 of the country as a team when it comes to shutout percentage (11th/.571), team goals against average (15th/.714) and save percentage (17th/.815).
- Wilson ranks eighth in the country with four shutouts this season. He recently earned back-to-back shutouts on Sept. 10 vs. Longwood and Sept. 13 hosting then-No. 19 Charlotte. He also accomplished the feat to open the season. As a result, Wilson has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Defensive Player of the Week twice on Aug. 27 and Sept. 17.
- Throughout the SoCon, UNCG is ranked first in corner kicks per game (6.14), goal differential (5), save percentage, scoring offense (1.43), won-loss-tied percentage (.643) and in total goals scored (10).
- Dovlo leads the Spartans and is tied with Mercer's Sekou Agard for the SoCon's top spot in goals scored (4) and total points (8) so far through seven matches. Dovlo leads the SoCon outright in terms of goals per game (0.57) and is tied with Furman's Christian Kraus for the top spot in points per game (1.14).
- Okawa leads the Spartans with three assists this season and has five points for a tie of second on the team after assisting on Tattevin's tying goal in the sixth minute at No. 5 West Viriginia last Tuesday. He now has points in three of the last four matches.
- Ketteman is tied with Okawa at five points. He scored his second goal of the season last Tuesday at West Virginia, which tied the game for a second time in the eventual 2-2 draw.
- Tattevin now stands at fourth on the team with three points after scoring the Spartans first goal last time out. He led UNCG a season ago with seven goals for 14 points.
- Birch scored his first goal of the season in the eighth minute of the Spartans' 2-0 victory over Longwood on Sept. 10.
- Freshman midfielder Issah Haruna is tied with Birch at two points this season after scoring his first collegiate goal at Davidson back on Sept. 6.
- Junior Colton Sessoms, junior Konstantinos Georgallides and freshman Mohammed Sumaila each have one point after assisting on one of UNCG's 10 goals so far this season.
- UNCG has totaled 43 corners in seven matches, which includes 13 in the season opener against USC Upstate, marking the most corner kicks for the Blue & Gold in a single match since Nov. 7, 2021, when UNCG had 20.
- UNCG was selected to finish third in the 2024 SoCon Preseason Poll following voting completed by the league's six head coaches. UNCG received one first-place vote. Senior Basile Marc and Tattevin were named to the 11-member All-SoCon preseason team on Aug. 13.
- Head Coach Chris Rich is in his sixth season at the helm of UNCG's men's soccer program. He has guided the Spartans to a 49-29-18 (18-5-5 SoCon) record since 2019 and totaled nine or more victories in four of his first five seasons.
- Under Coach Rich, UNCG has won three SoCon Regular Season titles, won the SoCon Tournament twice and made a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances since 2019.
- The Spartans' roster has 15 returners this season, which includes six student-athletes who saw action in each of the team's 17 matches a season ago; Hagan and Marc, who started in all 17 competitions, as well as Sessoms, Birch, Okawa and Donovan Roux.
- The Spartans' roster also consists of 13 newcomers for a total of 28 players on the roster.
- UNCG's recruiting class was ranked No. 44 in the country by TopDrawerSoccer on Aug. 21 and includes seven transfers and seven incoming freshmen.
- The new class positionally features a total of four defenders, three goalkeepers, two forwards, two midfielders, one midfielder/forward and one midfielder/defender.
- In total, the Spartans roster consists of nine forwards, seven midfielders, seven defenders, three goalkeepers and a pair of midfielder/defenders.
SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
- Virginia is off to a 2-3-3 start overall with a 0-2-2 record in the ACC.
- UVA was last in action on Friday, falling 1-0 while hosting No. 2 Stanford at Klöckner Stadium.
- Virginia is coming off recording back-to-back five-win seasons (2022-2023) for the first time since 2005-2006 and are the only team in the ACC coming off back-to-back five-win seasons in conference play.
- Virginia is also the only team in NCAA DI coming off back-to-back top-eight seeds in the NCAA Tournament. UVA was the No. 4 seed in 2022 and the No. 7 seed in 2023.
- The Cavaliers finished the 2023-24 campaign ranked No. 11 in the country after putting together an 11-4-4 overall record and 5-2-1 mark in ACC games. UVA's season ended in the NCAA Tournament with a second-round 1-0 loss to Indiana.
- UVA was voted to finish sixth in this season's Preseason ACC Men's Soccer Coaches Poll. Cavaliers' senior defender Paul Wiese was named to the ACC Preseason Watch List.
- The Cavaliers 2024 roster consists of 25 returning players and 17 newcomers (nine transfers, eight freshmen).
- Virginia's transfers bring with them a wealth of college soccer experience to the table including Lipscomb transfers Hayes Wood (21g, 12a) and Nick Dang (First Team All-ASUN Defender).
THE SERIES HISTORY
UNCG is 1-4-1 in the all-time series against Virginia, which dates back to the first meeting during the 1984 season. The last meeting between the two teams was on Sept. 14, 2021, when both sides played to a 0-0 draw in Charlottesville.
