Volleyball Posts 3-1 Win Over Chattanooga in First SoCon Road Test

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team defeated the Chattanooga Mocs on Friday night, posting its first Southern Conference (SoCon) road victory of the 2025 season in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in Maclellan Gym.

The last time the Spartans defeated the Mocs was in the 2021 season as that squad claimed both regular season matches against Chattanooga that year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – Chattanooga got on the board first in the match, but that would be the only lead for the Mocs in the first frame. The Spartans quickly responded with a 6-2 run and never looked back. The Spartans led by as much as 10 on a couple occasions in the first set. With UNCG on top, 17-13, the Spartans tallied a 7-1 run, taking a 24-14 lead. Chattanooga was able to secure five-straight points to hold UNCG off from taking the set. However, a kill from Connore' Siler-Nixon finally secured the first set for the Spartans, 25-18.

Set 2 – The second set started off like the first with the Mocs registering the first point of the game, but UNCG responded with another 6-2 run, holding the lead until late in the set. With the Spartans on top 16-10, Chattanooga notched an 11-1 run, taking a 21-17 advantage. The Mocs held the lead for the remainder of the game, taking it, 25-21.

Set 3 – Set three started off going back-and-forth in the early goings until UNCG took a 4-3 advantage and never allowed Chattanooga to take control again. After the Mocs' Kynli Kirkendoll launched a kill to give the home team their final point of the set, UNCG posted three-straight points to take the third stanza, 25-18.

Set 4 – After Chattanooga took a 6-3 lead over UNCG, a kill from Allie Sweet began a 5-0 Spartan run. UNCG never allowed Chattanooga to lead again in the match. The Spartans capitalized on a .406 hitting percentage to walk away comfortably with the final set. A service error and attack error on the Mocs, granted UNCG with set four, 25-14, for the 3-1 victory.
