ETSU Scores Late Goal to Get Past Men's Soccer

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. – The No. 10 UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team was upset, 2-1, by ETSU at Summers-Taylor Stadium on Saturday. Pablo Torre scored the only goal for UNCG in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The match started off quick for the Spartans, applying offensive pressure early with Issah Haruna and Enzo Dovlo each taking a shot on goal within the first five minutes of action. However, the stubborn ETSU defense didn't allow another shot in the half. The Spartans maintained 60% possession in the first half, probing the attacking area but not getting enough clean space to take a shot. ETSU couldn't get anything started on its side of the ball as UNCG's press made it hard for the Buccaneers to get anything going in the first half.

In the second half, Head Coach Chris Rich subbed Torre in for the start of the half and the sophomore striker made his presence felt early. In the 49th minute he put the ball in the back of the net after a failed clearance by ETSU to put UNCG up 1-0. The Buccaneers answered right back in the 58th minute after a run behind the UNCG back line that knotted up the score at 1-1. ETSU carried that momentum throughout the remainder of the second half, taking three additional shots. One of those shots found the back of the net in the 80th minute to put the Buccaneers up 2-1. The Spartans took two shots in a goal in the final 10 minutes of action, but a save with 89:47 on the clock which sealed the loss for UNCG at 2-1.

"Clearly a terrible result for us," said Coach Rich after the match. "I thought we were in total control in the game but unfortunately, we didn't get the job done tonight. We need to be better, and it starts with me.  Conference games are different, and clearly that meant a lot to ETSU. Credit to them. As difficult as this moment is, we need to quickly move on, grow from this experience, and get ready for a top 10 High Point team at home."
