Volleyball Takes Down Chattanooga 3-1 to Advance to SoCon Semifinals

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The fifth-seeded UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team defeated No. 4 Chattanooga on Friday, 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 24-26, 25-22) to advance to The Southern Conference (SoCon) Semifinals at Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, North Carolina.

The last time UNCG advanced to the SoCon Semifinal round was in the 2017 season after also taking down Chattanooga in the SoCon Quarterfinals, 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – The first set was a back-and-forth battle that saw a total of 14 ties and eight lead changes throughout. However, with Chattanooga holding a 21-19 advantage, the Spartans notched six unanswered points to secure the first frame, 25-21.

Set 2 – Chattanooga notched a 4-1 run before UNCG responded with six-straight points to take the lead, 7-4, and hold the advantage for the remainder of the set. With the Spartans on top, 24-16, the Mocs were able to hold UNCG at set-point for five rallies. However, the Spartans would eventually collect the second set, 25-21, due to a setting error on the Mocs.

Set 3 – A Gabby Seeds setter dump put the Spartans on the board first in set three before the Mocs responded with two-straight points for a 2-1 lead. Although the set tied on a couple occasions, Chattanooga was able to hold UNCG from taking the lead until late in the set. With the Mocs on top, 23-22, kills from Allie Sweet and Connore' Siler-Nixon gave UNCG its first lead since 1-0, 24-23. The remainder of the set was a point-for-point duel as both teams searched for the two-point lead. With the game tied 26-26, the Mocs were able to secure the two consecutive points to claim set three, 28-26.

Set 4 – After Chattanooga took a 4-2 lead over UNCG in the fourth set, the Spartans tallied a 7-0 run to take the lead, 9-4, and hold the advantage the rest of the way. A kill from Robin Rosser followed by a block assist from Rosser and Siler-Nixon, granted UNCG with the final stanza, 25-22, for the 3-1 win.
