CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team took down The Citadel Bulldogs in straight-set fashion (25-16, 25-17, 25-16) on Saturday evening in Charleston, South Carolina, at McAlister Field House in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action.
This is the eighth straight-set sweep for the Spartans this season. This is the most three-set wins for UNCG since 2021, when the team had 11 matches with 3-0 victories.
In addition, this is the first time since 2022 that UNCG has defeated The Citadel twice in a season. During the 2022 season, the Spartans won 3-0 and 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – The Bulldogs got out to an early 5-3 lead to hold the Spartans from taking the lead until late in the set. With The Citadel holding a 10-8 advantage over UNCG, a kill from
Connore' Siler-Nixon began a 9-1 Spartan run for the 17-11 lead. The Spartans held the lead for the remainder of the set taking the stanza, 25-17.
Set 2 – The Citadel put the first point on the scoreboard in set two before the Spartans collected the next two points for a 2-1 lead. UNCG utilized a .296 hitting percentage in the second set to hold the lead the rest of the frame. A set point attack error from The Citadel granted UNCG with the second set, 25-16.
Set 3 – The final frame went back-and-forth in the early goings. However, with the Bulldogs on top, 9-7, the Spartans posted four unanswered points to take an 11-9 lead and maintain the advantage for the remainder of the match. Another set point attack error from the Bulldogs allowed UNCG to take set three, 25-16, for the 3-0 victory.

The Spartans will travel to Johnson City, Tennessee, on Thursday, Nov. 13 to take on ETSU at 6:00 p.m. in Brooks Gymnasium. UNCG will conclude the 2025 regular season in Greensboro by hosting Wofford on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7:00 p.m. in Bodford Arena.
