SoCon Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jaila Lee of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team was named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Week following week one of conference play, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
UNCG went 2-0 in the opening week of conference action with a 73-64 win over Samford Thursday night and a 76-59 win over Mercer on Saturday inside Bodford Arena.
Lee recorded back-to-back double figure games for the Spartans last week, averaging 16.0 points per game. She shot a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line and went 4-for-7 from behind the arc.
The Brentwood, Tenn., native matched her career-best 17 points against Samford on Thursday night. In the team's win over Mercer on Saturday, Lee added five rebounds, two assists and one block to go along with her 15 points.
"Being named SoCon Player of the week is truly an honor and something I'm incredibly grateful for," said Lee. "I have had to fight against different forms of adversity this season, but through the whole process I trusted God, my family, my team and myself. This award means more than individual recognition. I wouldn't be here without the dedication and support of this program. We're proud of what we've accomplished thus far, but even more excited about what's ahead. Our focus now is to keep the momentum going, stay locked in and continue growing together."
Lee's recognition marks her first time being named SoCon Player of the Week in her career and second time the Spartans have earned the feat this season.
Makiah Asidanya was named SoCon Player of the Week on Nov. 11, 2025, in the first round of weekly awards for the 2025-26 season.
