GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) 2025 softball season was filled with memorable moments, highlighted by record-setting offensive performances and standout production throughout the lineup.
The 2026 team (Team 41) is made up of five seniors, five juniors, four sophomores and seven freshmen. Head Coach

Team 41 sets the stage for the new year on Feb. 6, when it battles Western Kentucky (10:00 a.m.) and Georgia Southern (3:00 p.m.) in Statesboro, Georgia, at Eagle Field at GS Softball Complex. The Spartans are scheduled to play five games during the Bash in the Boro from Feb. 6-8.
UNCG will then welcome Columbia (3:00 p.m.) and Fairfield (5:30 p.m.) for its home opener on Friday, Feb. 13 at UNCG Softball Stadium. The Spartans are set to play five games during their own Spiro Classic from Feb. 13-15.
With the 2026 season weeks away, look back at Team 40's accomplishments:
Winning Season
- With a 39-18 record, this is the seventh-straight season and 10th year with 30-plus wins under the direction of Breneman, who is now in her 14th season at the helm.
- During the seventh win of the season, a 7-2 victory over the Saint Francis, Breneman earned her 400th victory in the Blue & Gold.
- She is the winningest softball head coach in UNCG history. She bypassed the previous Head Coach Melody Cope's 220 wins on March 31, 2019, with a 4-3 win at Chattanooga.
- One of the 39 victories included a 4-3 win over ACC foe NC State on April 2. This was the first victory over the Wolfpack since April 3, 2019, when the Spartans won 2-1 in Greensboro. This was also the first ACC win for the Spartans since Feb. 27, 2022, when UNCG beat Virginia, 6-4, in Greensboro.
Record Breakers
- Senior outfielder Kaylyn Belfield smashed the UNCG single season batting average record with her impressive .431 in 2025. The previous record was .411, accomplished by Lindsay Thomas in 2016. Belfield's .431 hitting clip sits seventh in The Southern Conference (SoCon) single season records.
- Team 40 broke the UNCG record for RBI in a single season with 318. The previous mark of 306 was set by the 2014 team. The Spartans sat second with 318 RBI behind Mercer's 319 last season. Grace Loftin paced the team with a career-best 53 RBI, which was fourth in the SoCon.
