GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team takes a break from The Southern Conference (SoCon) action this week and will travel to Buies Creek, North Carolina, to face Campbell on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
The two teams last faced off in 2023 on Feb. 22 in Greensboro where the Camels won 3-1. The last matchup in Buies Creek was an 11-inning battle on April 20, 2022, where Campbell claimed the 5-4 victory. The Spartans' last victory over the Camels was on April 25, 2018, with a 6-5 nine-inning win.
With the 34-15 overall record, this is the eighth straight 30-win season for the Spartans, with the exception of the 2020 COVID-19 season and 11
th time under the direction of 14-year Head Coach
Janelle Breneman.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
- UNCG swept a three-game series over Mercer in Greensboro this past weekend.
- The Spartans won games one and two in run-rule fashion, taking an 8-0 victory in six innings and then another 8-0 five innings.
- The first game was won with a grand slam by Avery Bouquin and Brooklyn Shroyer tossed a two-hit game.
- In game two, Emmy Clark hit a two-run double to take the shutout, and Rhyann Jones threw a one-hit game.
- In game three, UNCG won 6-4 and three Spartans had multi-hit games, including Macy Michael, Salem Ward and Kaylyn Belfield.
RUNDOWN ON THE SPARTANS
- UNCG was voted as the favorite in SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll ahead of the 2026 season. The Spartans earned four first-place votes as well as 43 points.
- Belfield and Michael were voted to the Preseason All-SoCon First Team. Ward, juniors Samantha Beck and Betsy Eatmon and sophomore Hadley Gardner all earned Preseason All-SoCon Second Team recognition.
- The 2026 roster includes 12 returners, seven freshmen and two transfers. Of the 12 returners, five started in 40 or more games last season.
- The Spartans return Belfield, who led the Spartans with a UNCG single season batting average record of .431.
- The Blue & Gold also have Gardner returning, who was one of three Spartans last season to hit 10 or more homers, placing her second on the team with 11 home runs.
- UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 39-18 overall record and a 14-6 SoCon mark.
- The 2025 season was the seventh-straight year and 10th year with 30-plus wins under the direction of Coach Breneman.
- UNCG has had two 10-game winning streaks, the first was from Feb. 13-24 and the second stretch was from March 13-29.
- The Spartans have recorded 10 plus hits as a team in 18 games this season.
- Shroyer is pacing the SoCon in ERA (1.74), hits allowed per seven innings (4.14), strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.32), strikeouts (146), victories (16) and WHIP (.94).
- Shroyer is nationally ranked in the top 25 in five categories: hits allowed per seven innings (9th), WHIP (17th), ERA (20th), strikeouts (20th) and victories (24th).
- Bouquin and Laney Deane are second in the SoCon with 14 doubles and second with 0.31 doubles per game.
- Belfield is second in the conference in hits with 61 and 54th nationally.
- UNCG is leading the SoCon in doubles (81), doubles per game (1.65), ERA (2.28), hits allowed per seven innings (5.69), strikeout-to-walk ratio (1.99), team strikeouts per seven innings (5.65), WHIP (1.22) and win-loss percentage (.694).
RUNDOWN ON CAMPBELL
- Campbell concluded the 2025 season with a 37-20 record overall and 19-8 in CAA play, falling in the championship game.
- Charlie Montgomery is pacing the team with a .423 batting average totaling 66 hits.
- Four other Camels are hitting .300 or better.
- Allyiah Swiney has a team-best 37 RBI and seven homers.
- Swiney and Amber DeSena lead the team with 12 doubles each.
- In 127.2 innings pitched, Katelyn Hubley leads the team with 14 complete games, 2.36 ERA, a 15-3 record and 117 strikeouts.
- Hubley is 32nd nationally with her 15 wins.
- Campbell is pacing the CAA in batting average (.325), double plays (19), double plays per game (.41), hits (397), on base percentage (.434), RBI per game (5.78), RBI (266), scoring (6.72), total runs (309), total sacrifice flies (17), and walks (197).

The Spartans will host SoCon foe Chattanooga on Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26 for their final home series of the regular season.
