Pinedo Registers Double-Double in 97-85 Loss to Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team fell to The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Wofford, 97-85, on Wednesday night at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.

Valentino Pinedo recorded his second double-double of the season and fifth of his career scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Justin Neely was one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring a new season high of 26 points and adding nine boards. KJ Younger was the third Spartan with double figures, tallying 13 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Noah Norgaard recorded the first three-pointer of the game at 19:19, but Wofford responded with back-to-back jumpers to take its first lead, 4-3, with 17:11 left on the clock. Donald Whitehead Jr.'s jump shot at 16:56 was the final lead of the first half for the Spartans, 5-4, before the Terriers took over and eventually saw a 20-point cushion twice in the frame. The first came with 33 seconds left, 54-34, and then again at the buzzer heading into the locker room, 56-36.

The score toggled back and forth for the first nine minutes of action in the second half, before UNCG was able to cut the deficit to 11, 71-60. The Terriers scored seven straight points to climb to an 18-point advantage, 78-60, with 8:30 left in the game. Even with UNCG having the upper hand in field goal percentage (50.0-35.29) and three-point percentage (54.55-35.71) in the second half, the Terriers ultimately claimed the victory, 97-85.

  • Neely shot 13-for-16 from the charity stripe, a new career best, and 6-for-8 from field goal range.
  • Wofford bested UNCG in field goal percentage (50.0-49.2) and free throw percentage (73.1-66.7).
  • The Terriers outmatched the Spartans in points in the paint (36-34), points off turnovers (10-7), second-chance points (21-16), fastbreak points (9-6) and bench points (26-18).
