GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team extended its win streak to four behind a 99-89 victory over The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Wofford Terriers on Saturday evening inside of Bodford Arena.
Justin Neely led the game with his 17
th double-double of the season and 24
th of his career, scoring 29 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. This is the second time in his career he has scored 29 points. The last time was versus Maine on Feb. 20, 2025.
The Spartans also had four others with double-figures, including
KJ Younger with 22,
Valentino Pinedo with 15,
Lilian Marville with 13 and
Donald Whitehead Jr. with 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Younger hit the first three-pointer of the game at 19:38 which propelled the Spartans to a 13-0 run with 15:23 left in the half. UNCG maintained a double-digit lead through the 9:05 mark, before Wofford fought back with a 10-0 run, cutting the deficit to five, 21-16, with 7:46 remaining. The score toggled back-and-forth until five-straight points from
Clyde Bailey II gave UNCG a 10-point cushion, 30-20, with 5:46 on the clock. After the Terriers cut the deficit to six, 33-27, with 4:07 left, the Spartans finished the half strong with a 14-3 run to build a 47-30 advantage.
The Spartans used a 6-2 run out of the break for their first 20-plus lead of the game, 53-32. After Wofford came within 11, 70-59, UNCG responded with a 13-2 run to stretch the margin to 22-points, its largest of the game. The Spartans were able to maintain its double-figure buffer as time began to expire and Wofford's Jayden Tyler drained a three-pointer for the Terriers' last basket, leaving UNCG with a 99-89 victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Marville registered a career- and game-high seven assists.
- UNCG outmatched Wofford in field goal percentage (54.5-49.2), three point percentage (47.6-30.8) and free throw percentage (76.3-67.9).
- The Spartans also bested the Terriers in points off turnovers (18-5) and fast break points (6-4).
- Wofford had the advantage in points in the paint (40-26), second chance points (18-6), bench points (36-20) and rebounds (38-27).
