GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team claimed its first victory of the 2026 season against inner-city rival North Carolina A&T, 4-3, on Wednesday evening at UNCG Baseball Stadium. Isaac Miles got his first collegiate start and win tonight, going six innings with three strikeouts.
The Spartans struck quick in the first inning with cleanup hitter Jake Mueller driving in JJ Parsons with a double in the gap for the quick 1-0 lead. In the third frame, sophomore Landon Polk drove in his first collegiate RBI to expand the Spartans' advantage to 2-0. The Aggies battled back in the sixth however, mashing a ground-rule double, then two quick productive outs that brought the runner home to cut the lead down to 2-1. Jake Barbour responded with a triple that drove home Anthony Ruocco to make the game 3-1 after six. Miles was pulled in the top of the seventh, with Head Coach Cody Ellis turning to senior Luke Thomas to close out the game. The UNCG sticks added an extra insurance run in the bottom of the seventh with the speedy catcher Parsons scoring from third on a wild pitch to make it 4-1.
However, A&T would jump on Thomas in the top of the eighth after a quick strikeout. The Aggies strung together a walk, a single then a two RBI double to again cut the lead back down to one run. Freshman Thomas Hester was brought in for the save and got UNCG out of the eighth inning jam with a strikeout. The Spartans left the bases loaded in the bottom half of the inning as the freshman closer strutted out to the mound for a save opportunity. After an Aggies single, the lefty would strikeout the remaining batters to end the game with a 4-3 victory.
