GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team took game two of the three-game series against Canisius, 7-3, on Saturday afternoon at UNCG Baseball Stadium. Noah Winfield captured his first collegiate win, and Ethan Brittain made his first collegiate start.
Senior JT Weaver was on the mound for game two but was troubled early as he gave up two runs for Canisius to take the early 2-0 lead in the first. Weaver went three and two thirds'innings with five strikeouts, four walks and two earned runs given up before being replaced by Nolan Winfield in the fourth inning. The UNCG bats were silenced early with only one hit through the first four innings of action. In the fifth inning, Jake Barbour smacked a two RBI double to tie up the game, then Jacob Dilley brought the Spartan leadoff man home with a single up the middle to put the scoreline at 3-2. The sixth inning saw the Golden Griffins respond with a run of their own to once again knot the game at 3-3. However, UNCG retook the advantage with a Brantley Truitt RBI single to put the Spartans back up 4-3 after the sixth inning. In the bottom of the eighth, UNCG extended the lead to 7-3 after a pair a passed ballsand an RBI triple from Jacob Budzik. Senior Luke Thomas was given the final frame and retired the final three Canisius batters to end the game at 7-3.
