Softball Battles In-State Foe Queens on Tuesday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team will travel down 85 to face Queens on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at The Stick Williams Dream Fields.

UNCG is 10-5 overall and Queens is 2-4 overall.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG extended its winning streak to nine games after a 5-0 UNCG Tournament.
  • Avery Bouquin and Laney Deane each swung .625 this weekend, both hitting 10-for-16.
  • Deane tallied a team-best 10 RBI with one home run and four doubles.
  • Bouquin recorded seven runs, five doubles and three RBI.
  • Brooklyn Shroyer was named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Pitcher of the Week after her 14.0 inning weekend with 17 strikeouts, 2-0 record, one save and just three hits allowed.
  • Salem Ward also went 2-0 in the circle in two appearances for the Spartans, tossing 9.1 innings with seven strikeouts.
RUNDOWN ON THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG was voted as the favorite in SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll ahead of the 2026 season. The Spartans earned four first-place votes with 43 points.
  • Kaylyn Belfield and Macy Michael were voted to the Preseason All-SoCon First Team. Ward, juniors Samantha Beck and Betsy Eatmon and sophomore Hadley Gardner all earned Preseason All-SoCon Second Team recognition.
  • The 2026 roster includes 12 returners, seven freshmen and two transfers. Of the 12 returners, five started in 40 or more games last season.
  • The Spartans return Belfield, who led the Spartans with a UNCG single season batting average record of .431.
  • The Blue & Gold also have Gardner returning, who was one of three Spartans last season to hit 10 or more homers, placing her second on the team with 11 home runs.
  • Michael is the leading returner in RBI and walks, tallying 36 and 23, respectively during her freshman season.
  • UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 39-18 overall record and a 14-6 SoCon mark.
  • This was the seventh-straight season and 10th year with 30-plus wins under the direction of Head Coach Janelle Breneman, who is now in her 14th season at the helm.
  • Belfield is currently leading the Spartans with a .472 batting average with 16 runs scored and a .491 on-base percentage.
  • Bouquin is second on the team with a .405 hitting clip with 10 runs scored, six doubles and seven RBI.
  • Deane is pacing the team with 20 RBI and seven doubles. She is leading the SoCon in doubles, hit by pitch (5) and hit by pitch per game (.33).
  • Three Spartans have four home runs each, including Deane, Michael and Nya South.
  • Shroyer has a 1.37 ERA with a 5-2 record in 11 appearances with 46.0 innings tossed. She has struck out 55 batters and given up just 27 hits.
  • Shroyer is leading the SoCon in victories (5), strikeouts (55), shutouts (3), saves (1), pitching appearances (11) and innings pitched (46.0).
  • UNCG is leading the SoCon in doubles (29), ERA (1.93), hit by pitch (12), team strikeouts per seven innings (6.20) and WHIP (1.27).  
RUNDOWN ON QUEENS
  • Queens went 16-36 overall and 9-15 in the ASUN last season.
  • The Royals were voted to finish 10th in the 2026 ASUN Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Sophomore Lauren Byrd returns this season and was named to the 2025 ASUN All-Freshman Team after appearing in 45 games for the Royals making 42 starts.
  • She finished the season with a .264 batting average, recording 34 hits, 10 RBI, 10 doubles and 10 homers.
  • Byrd was the primary catcher for Queens last season, posting a .935 fielding percentage.
  • Sage Farmer is leading the team and is second in the ASUN with a .571 batting average, swinging 12-for-21 at the plate with four runs scored and two RBI.
  • Farmer's .609 on-base percentage is also second in the ASUN.
  • Lindsay Henson has hit three homers and has tallied eight RBI this season to lead the team.
  • In the circle, Addison Kluck has tossed 25.2 innings in five appearances. She has allowed 26 hits and has retired 22 batters.
