Softball Welcomes Loyola Chicago to Greensboro on Tuesday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team will host Loyola Chicago on Tuesday for a single game at UNCG Softball Stadium at 4:00 p.m.
 
The Spartans have won the last 12 of 15 games, while the Ramblers are on a three-game losing streak.

The two teams last met on Feb. 25, 2022, when UNCG won 4-1 in Greensboro, during the UNCG Invitational.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG played six games last week and went 3-3 with two shutouts.
  • The Spartans now have six shutouts on the season.
  • Rhyann Jones & Brooklyn Shroyer each recorded a win this weekend in the circle.
  • Nya South paced the Spartans with a .471 batting average with two doubles and one homer.
  • Jazmin Mejia (.444) and Ava Talley (.400) also swung above .400 for the week.
  • Laney Deane led UNCG with seven RBI.
RUNDOWN ON THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG was voted as the favorite in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll ahead of the 2026 season. The Spartans earned four first-place votes with 43 points.
  • Belfield and Macy Michael were voted to the Preseason All-SoCon First Team. Salem Ward, juniors Samantha Beck and Betsy Eatmon and sophomore Hadley Gardner all earned Preseason All-SoCon Second Team recognition.
  • The 2026 roster includes 12 returners, seven freshmen and two transfers. Of the 12 returners, five started in 40 or more games last season.
  • The Spartans return Belfield, who led the Spartans with a UNCG single season batting average record of .431.
  • The Blue & Gold also have Gardner returning, who was one of three Spartans last season to hit 10 or more homers, placing her second on the team with 11 home runs.
  • Michael is the leading returner in RBI and walks, tallying 36 and 23, respectively during her freshman season.
  • UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 39-18 overall record and a 14-6 SoCon mark.
  • This was the seventh-straight season and 10th year with 30-plus wins under the direction of Head Coach Janelle Breneman, who is now in her 14th season at the helm.
  • Belfield is currently leading the Spartans with a .432 batting average with 20 runs scored and a .455 on-base percentage.
  • Bouquin is second on the team with a .426 hitting clip with 11 runs scored, six doubles and 11 RBI.
  • Laney Deane is pacing the team with 27 RBI and eight doubles. She is leading the SoCon in doubles, doubles per game (0.38), hit by pitch (6) and RBI (27).
  • Deane & South each have five home runs to lead the team, while Michael has four blasts.
  • Shroyer has a 2.00 ERA with a 7-3 record in 14 appearances with 63.0 innings tossed. She has struck out 77 batters and given up just 39 hits.
  • Shroyer is leading the SoCon in innings pitched (63.0), pitching appearances (25), saves (1), shutouts (4), strikeouts (77) and victories (6).  
  • UNCG is leading the SoCon in hit by pitch (16), hits (173) and team strikeouts per seven innings (6.05).
 
RUNDOWN ON LOYOLA CHICAGO
  • The Ramblers were voted to finish sixth in the 2026 Atlantic 10 Softball Preseason Poll.
  • Loyola Chicago went 19-34 overall and 14-12 in the A-10 during the 2025 season.
  • Alli Pawlowicz is returning for the Ramblers and was named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team.
  • Megan Piotrowski is currently pacing the team with a .298 batting average, while Nat Lesnicki is second with a .288 hitting clip.
  • Four Ramblers have one home run each, while Liz Sedakis has a team-best 11 RBI this season.
  • In the circle, Anna Kiel has tossed a team-high 39.2 innings, allowing 47 hits with 18 strikeouts and keeping batters to a .290 batting average.
  • Loyola is pacing the A-10 in stolen bases per game (1.60), total sacrifice bunts (4) and total stolen bases (8).
UP NEXT
UNCG will travel to Wilmington, North Carolina, to compete in the UNCW Tournament from March 6-8 on Boseman Field.  The Spartans will open the tournament with Army on Friday at 3:30 p.m. They will also face Toledo and host UNCW.
