GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team fell to The Southern Conference (SoCon) opponent ETSU, 8–2, in game two at UNCG Baseball Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Luke Holland paced the Spartans with two hits and one RBI.
ETSU began the game with three-straight two out singles that scored one run in the top of the first. The Bucs came back with another two runs in the top of the second to extend their lead to 3-0. The Spartans battled back in the bottom of the second with a productive groundout by Luke Jenkins that scored Holland to cut the lead to 3-1. The third inning saw UNCG add another run as Holland smacked a line drive up the middle for an RBI single to bring the score to a one run game, 3-2. The game transformed into a pitching duel as starter Hunter Shuey, after two unsteady innings, found his groove not allowing a hit for the rest of his appearance as he went five innings with six hits, three runs, two walks and six strikeouts.
However, the vaunted Bucs offense roared into life in the top of fifth as they hung five runs in the frame to extend the margin to 8-2. The UNCG offense was unable to get back into rhythm for final four innings of action as ETSU's pitching held the Spartans scoreless the rest of the way to bring the game to an 8-2 the final score.
