GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team dropped game three to The Southern Conference (SoCon) opponent ETSU, 15–8, at UNCG Baseball Stadium on Sunday afternoon. JJ Parsons led the way with three RBIs and two runs scored.
ETSU began the game with a first pitch home run to jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Bucs quickly extended their lead to 3-0 after a two-run shot over the left field wall. The Spartans battled back in the bottom of the frame with a bases loaded RBI single by Luke Jenkins, then an Ethan Brittain sacrifice fly that put UNCG within one, 3-2. However, ETSU answered right back with two runs in the third, then three runs in the fourth to keep UNCG at arm's length, 8-2.
Luke Holland gave UNCG some life in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly of his own to cut the lead to 8-3. The relentless ETSU offense continued to tack on runs as they added two more in the top of the fifth for a 10-3 advantage. With their backs against the wall, UNCG surged into life in the bottom of the seventh. The rally started off with Brantley Truitt driving home Jake Mueller with an RBI single. Parsons came up to the dish with two runners on and delivered an electrifying three-run home run to cut the lead further. After a Jenkins triple, Brittain capped off the inning with an RBI ground out to put UNCG down 10-8 after seven. ETSU responded with a solo home run in the top of the eighth to extend its lead in the top of eighth to 11-8. The Spartans loaded the bases in the bottom half of the frame with no outs, but elite Bucs defense and pitching got them out of the inning unscathed. The final inning saw ETSU put the game out of reach with four runs scored to bring the game to a final score of 15-8.
