Baseball Sets Tone in Game One Against Quinnipiac

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team smashed the Quinnipiac Bobcats, 13-3, on Friday night at UNCG Baseball Stadium. Jake Mueller drove in a season-high five RBIs in the win.

Noah Chapman was given the game one nod and had it going early, striking out four of the nine batters faced in the first three innings of action. UNCG's offense struggled early until the bottom of the third, when leadoff hitter, Brody Gardner, mashed a no doubt home run over the left field wall to put the Spartans up 1-0. After three quick walks by the Bobcats' pitching staff, Mueller stepped in and delivered a two RBI double to extend the lead to 3-0. Still in the third, Luke Jenkins and Jacob Budzik each drove in a run with back-to-back singles to put the score at 5-0.

After a wild pitch that scored another run, Gardner stepped up to the plate once again and drove in another RBI to extend the score to 7-0. After two Quinnipiac miscues that resulted in two runs, Mueller ended the scoring spree with another two RBIs to bring the third inning to a close at 11-0. The Bobcats responded with three runs in the top of fourth to make the score 11-3. However, the Spartans struck again in the fifth with a Jake Barbour RBI triple and a Mueller RBI sac-fly to bring the game to the final score of 13-3.

"I had a great day today," said Mueller after the game. "I have been struggling at the plate lately, so I came into today letting the ball dictate where I hit it and good results followed. I had a few drop today to help my team and get that crucial game one win "
