GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team will travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina, for a three-game series against The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Wofford on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, the two teams will play a doubleheader with the first game starting at 1:00 p.m. and on Sunday they will play a single game with a first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m.
Currently, the Spartans are 28-14 overall and 8-1 in the SoCon and the Terriers are 26-10 overall and 4-3 in the conference. UNCG is 6-1 against Wofford, which includes one meeting in the 2025 SoCon Tournament, where the Spartans won, 3-1.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
- UNCG had a five-run seventh inning to defeat in-state foe Charlotte on Wednesday at UNCG Softball Stadium, 7-6.
- Freshman Avery Bouquin hit the game-winning double, as she went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
- Nya South went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a game-best three RBI.
- Hadley Gardner, who went 2-for-3 at the plate, was the only other Spartan with multiple hits.
- UNCG went up 2-0 in the first inning, but the 49ers went up 6-2 after six innings of play. The Spartans bounced back and were able to push across five runs on two hits and an error for the win.
RUNDOWN ON THE SPARTANS
- UNCG was voted as the favorite in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll ahead of the 2026 season. The Spartans earned four first-place votes as well as 43 points.
- Kaylyn Belfield and Macy Michael were voted to the Preseason All-SoCon First Team. Salam Ward, juniors Samantha Beck and Betsy Eatmon and sophomore Gardner all earned Preseason All-SoCon Second Team recognition.
- The 2026 roster includes 12 returners, seven freshmen and two transfers. Of the 12 returners, five started in 40 or more games last season.
- The Spartans return Belfield, who led the Spartans with a UNCG single season batting average record of .431.
- The Blue & Gold also have Gardner returning, who was one of three Spartans last season to hit 10 or more homers, placing her second on the team with 11 home runs.
- UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 39-18 overall record and a 14-6 SoCon mark.
- The 2025 season was the seventh-straight year and 10th year with 30-plus wins under the direction of Head Coach Janelle Breneman, who is now in her 14th season at the helm.
- UNCG has had two 10-game winning streaks, the first was from Feb. 13-24 and the second stretch was from March 13-29.
- The Spartans have recorded 10 plus hits as a team in 15 games this season.
- Shroyer is pacing the SoCon in ERA (1.71), hits allowed per seven innings (4.00), shutouts (7), strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.46), strikeouts (135), strikeouts per seven innings (8.6), victories (14) and WHIP (0.92).
- She is second in the conference in games started (15), innings pitched (110.1) and pitching appearances (23).
- Shroyer is nationally ranked in the top 25 in six categories: shutouts (3rd/7), hits allowed per seven innings (12th/4.00), WHIP (16th/0.92), strikeouts (17th/135), victories (22nd/14) and ERA (25th/1.71).
- Laney Deane is second in the league in doubles (12) and RBIs (47).
- Belfield is second in the conference in hits with 53 and 43rd nationally.
- UNCG is leading the SoCon in doubles (67), doubles per game (1.60), ERA (2.23), hits allowed per seven innings (5.54), strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.05), team strikeouts per seven innings (5.94) and WHIP (1.20).
RUNDOWN ON WOFFORD
- Wofford concluded the 2025 season, 30-22 overall and 11-8 in the SoCon. Last year was the Terriers' first official season.
- Wofford was voted to finish fourth in the 2026 SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll.
- Margaret Axelson was voted the 2026 Preseason Pitcher of the Year, while also being voted to the Preseason First Team. Abby Greenwood, Brianna Stanley and Rivers Sampson were voted to the Preseason Second Team.
- The Terriers have won the last two games, defeating Winthrop, 5-2, and then Samford, 3-2, in eight innings.
- The Terriers opened the 2026 season by winning 16 of their first 17 games.
- Addison Lucier (.462) and Desirae Devine (.430) lead the team in batting averages.
- Stanley is pacing the team with nine homers and 44 RBI.
- Devine has successfully stolen 21 of 23 bases this season.
- In 15 appearances and 79.2 innings tossed, Greenwood has a 2.72 ERA with 45 strikeouts.
- Wofford is leading the SoCon in batting average (.333), double plays (15), double plays per game (.42), fielding percentage (.971), on-base percentage (.432), scoring (6.72), stolen bases per game (1.97), total sacrifice bunts (36), total stolen bases (71), triples (12), triples per game (.33), win-loss percentage (.722) and walks (156).
