GREENSBORO, N.C.- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team fell in the rematch against Campbell, 11–8, at UNCG Baseball Stadium on Tuesday night. The duo of Brantley Truitt and Luke Jenkins each drove in two RBIs in the game.
The Fighting Camels got out to a hot start in the top of the second, knocking out UNCG starter Tucker Holland after an inning of work with four runs in the frame. Campbell extended the lead with a sacrifice fly in the next inning for a 3-0 lead. The Spartans fought back with three runs in the fourth as a Truitt RBI triple put UNCG on the board, 4-1. The very next pitch saw Jenkins smash a two-run home run, his third of the year, to cut the lead to 4-3.
The Camels responded in the next inning with back-to-back home runs for four runs to keep the Spartans at arm's length, 8-3. After a quiet sixth frame UNCG and Campbell went back and forth in the final three innings, scoring eight runs combined to close the game. The visitors added to their margin with another two-run blast to put the game at 10-3. The Blue & Gold did not go down quietly however, as Jake Barbour brought home Anthony Ruocco with an RBI double then, after a stolen base, Tanner Berry scored Barbour with a RBI single, 10-5. The eighth saw Campbell get an insurance run with a bloop RBI single to push the score to 11-5. UNCG again had the answer in the bottom half with two runs to go into the ninth down 11-7. Truitt got one run back with an RBI triple, his second of the game, to give the Spartans life. Jenkins walked to bring the tying run to the plate down 11-8 with two outs. However, the Camels coerced a foul ball pop out to end the game, 11-8.
