GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team will begin a four-game homestand, welcoming Longwood for a single game on Wednesday at UNCG Softball Stadium starting at 5:00 p.m.
The Spartans are leading the overall series against the Lancers, 26-18. UNCG took the game against Longwood on April 23, 2025, in Farmville, Virginia, 4-0. The Lancers last won on April 9, 2021, 9-6, in Greensboro.
With the 30-15 overall record, this is the eighth straight 30-win season for the Spartans, with the exception of the 2020 COVID-19 season and 11
th time under the direction of 14-year Head Coach

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
- UNCG went 3-1 last week with an impressive 7-6 walk-off victory over in-state foe Charlotte to begin the stretch. Avery Bouquin had the game-winning double to secure the win.
- The Spartans then traveled to Spartanburg, South Carolina, where they won the series 2-1 against Wofford.
- The Terriers claimed game one, 7-3, as Nya South and Rylie Williams went 2-for-3 at the plate.
- UNCG defeated Wofford in game two, 3-1, as Rhyann Jones earned her fifth win in the circle. Macy Michael swung 2-for-4, while Williams went 2-for-3 at the plate.
- In game three, the Spartans were down 6-0, but a seven-run sixth inning gave them a 7-6 edge. Bouquin then hit a solo homer for an 8-6 cushion, as UNCG held on for the win.
RUNDOWN ON THE SPARTANS
- UNCG was voted as the favorite in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Preseason Coaches' Poll ahead of the 2026 season. The Spartans earned four first-place votes as well as 43 points.
- Kaylyn Belfield and Michael were voted to the Preseason All-SoCon First Team. Salam Ward, juniors Samantha Beck and Betsy Eatmon and sophomore Hadley Gardner all earned Preseason All-SoCon Second Team recognition.
- The 2026 roster includes 12 returners, seven freshmen and two transfers. Of the 12 returners, five started in 40 or more games last season.
- The Spartans return Belfield, who led the Spartans with a UNCG single season batting average record of .431.
- The Blue & Gold also have Gardner returning, who was one of three Spartans last season to hit 10 or more homers, placing her second on the team with 11 home runs.
- UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 39-18 overall record and a 14-6 SoCon mark.
- The 2025 season was the seventh-straight year and 10th year with 30-plus wins under the direction of Coach Breneman.
- UNCG has had two 10-game winning streaks, the first was from Feb. 13-24 and the second stretch was from March 13-29.
- The Spartans have recorded 10 plus hits as a team in 15 games this season.
- Brooklyn Shroyer is pacing the SoCon in ERA (1.83), hits allowed per seven innings (4.25), shutouts (7), strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.26), strikeouts (140), victories (15) and WHIP (0.97).
- Shroyer is nationally ranked in the top 25 in five categories: shutouts (4th/7), hits allowed per seven innings (13th/4.25), strikeouts (19th/140), victories (22nd/15) and WHIP (23rd/0.97).
- Bouquin is second in the SoCon with 12 doubles and second with 0.29 doubles per game.
- Belfield is second in the conference in hits with 55 and 64th nationally.
- UNCG is leading the SoCon in doubles (68), ERA (2.33), hits (349), hits allowed per seven innings (5.75), strikeout-to-walk ratio (1.98), team strikeouts per seven innings (5.71) and WHIP (1.23).
RUNDOWN ON LONGWOOD
- Longwood was chosen to finish third in the 2026 Big South Preseason Poll, while earning one first-place vote.
- Sophia Knock and Maggie Chapin were voted to the 2026 Big South Preseason All-Conference Team.
- Longwood has won four of its last five games, including taking the series against Radford, 2-1.
- Last season, the Lancers went 21-32 overall and 11-7 in the Big South.
- Among the nation, Longwood is leading the Big South in team strikeouts per seven innings (5.55), total sacrifice bunts (35) and walks (160).
- Chapin is nationally ranked in the top 20 in five categories: complete games (4th/17), innings pitched (7th/149.1), games started (8th/24), strikeouts (11th/161) and caught stealing by (20th/11).
- In her 149.1 innings tossed, she has a 3.66 ERA with 17 complete games, 138 hits and 161 strikeouts.
- Brooke Bennett (.362), Maggie Hiatt (.333) and Knock (.331) are the three Lancers that are swinging over .300 this season.
- Bennett is also pacing the team with 10 doubles, eight homers and 47 hits.
- Knock is leading the team with 34 RBI.

The Spartans will host SoCon foe Mercer on Saturday and Sunday at UNCG Softball Stadium. The two teams will play in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m., where Kids can run the bases and receive postgame autographs, and it is alumni weekend. On Sunday the final game will begin at 1:00 p.m. and fans can play softball BINGO and buy one get one free hot dogs.
