GREENSBORO, N.C.- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team fell in game two of the three-game series against The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Samford, 9–5, at UNCG Baseball Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Jacob Dilley brought home two RBIs on the day to lead the team.
Samford got on the board first with two runs in the top of the second to give the Bulldogs the early advantage. The Spartans responded in the bottom half of the inning as Dilley and Ethan Brittain each drove in an RBI to tie up the game, 2-2. UNCG continued the offensive momentum in the next frame as Dilley knocked in his second RBI of the game, fifth of the series, for a 3-2 lead.
The Spartans' starter, J.T. Weaver, went four innings but was relieved in the fifth for Thomas Hester after 80 pitches. The Bulldogs jumped on the new freshman reliever scoring one run in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 3-3. UNCG retook the lead after a bottom of the sixth error by Samford with the bases loaded, 4-3. Ayden West came in to close the game out in the top of the seventh but back-to-back errors by UNCG resulted in a run scoring to bring both teams even at four apeice. The Bulldogs pushed across another run in the eighth to give them the lead, 5-4. The UNCG offense threatened in the bottom half of the eighth with runners on second and third of its own with no outs. However, the Samford pitching coerced three-straight outs to get out of the jam. The Bulldogs put the game away in the top of the ninth with four runs in the frame, 9-4, which would bring the game to a close.
