Softball to Conclude Regular Season Home Schedule with Chattanooga

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team will conclude the regular season home schedule with The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Chattanooga on Saturday and Sunday at UNCG Softball Stadium.

On Saturday, UNCG's four seniors will have a first pitch prior to the doubleheader that is slated for noon and on Sunday they will play a single game with a first pitch slated for 2:00 p.m. Prior to the Sunday matchup, the Spartans will recognize Rylie Williams, Salem Ward, Kaylyn Belfield and Madelyn McKinnon.

Chattanooga has won the last two series and are 6-3 against the Spartans in the last nine games played, which includes three SoCon Tournament games. UNCG last won a series in 2023 in Tennessee, sweeping the Mocs.

With the 35-15 overall record, this is the eighth straight 30-win season for the Spartans, with the exception of the 2020 COVID-19 season and 11th time under the direction of 14-year Head Coach Janelle Breneman.

All regular season softball home games are free admission. The concessions at UNCG Softball Stadium are open. Bringing in outside food is not permitted and pets are not allowed into the stadium.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG came-from-behind to defeat in-state foe Campbell on Wednesday in Buies Creek, 5-2.
  • Macy Michael, Nya South and Hadley Gardner each had two hits.
  • Gardner crushed her second homer of the season, a three-run shot in the top of the sixth.
  • Nadia Andarowski earned the win and Salem Ward picked up a save.
RUNDOWN ON THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG was voted as the favorite in SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll ahead of the 2026 season. The Spartans earned four first-place votes as well as 43 points.
  • Kaylyn Belfield and Michael were voted to the Preseason All-SoCon First Team. Ward, juniors Samantha Beck and Betsy Eatmon and sophomore Gardner all earned Preseason All-SoCon Second Team recognition.
  • The Spartans return Belfield, who led the Spartans with a UNCG single season batting average record of .431.
  • UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 39-18 overall record and a 14-6 SoCon mark.
  • UNCG has had two 10-game winning streaks, the first was from Feb. 13-24 and the second stretch was from March 13-29.
  • The Spartans have recorded 10 plus hits as a team in 19 games this season.
  • UNCG has 14 shutouts this season, matching the 2018 mark.
  • Brooklyn Shroyer is pacing the SoCon in ERA (1.74), hits allowed per seven innings (4.14), strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.32), strikeouts (146), victories (16) and WHIP (.94).
  • Shroyer is nationally ranked in the top 25 in five categories: hits allowed per seven innings (9th), WHIP (17th), ERA (20th), strikeouts (20th) and victories (24th).
  • Avery Bouquin and Laney Deane are second in the SoCon with 14 doubles and second with 0.30 doubles per game.  
  • Belfield is second in the conference and 60th nationally with 61 hits.  
  • UNCG is leading the SoCon in doubles (82), doubles per game (1.64), ERA (2.27), hits allowed per seven innings (5.65), strikeout-to-walk ratio (1.94), team strikeouts per seven innings (5.59), WHIP (1.22) and win-loss percentage (.700).
RUNDOWN ON CHATTANOOGA
  • Chattanooga was voted to finish tied for second with Samford in the 2026 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Mocs earned one first-place vote.
  • Taylor Long was named to the 2026 Preseason All-SoCon First Team.
  • In 2025, the Mocs concluded the season 41-15 overall and won their 16th SoCon Regular Season title.
  • The Mocs are currently on a four-game losing skid, losing a three-game series to Western Carolina and most recently a non-conference battle with Jacksonville State.
  • There are four Mocs that are swinging over .300, with Ava Cowart leading the way with her .375 hitting clip.
  • Cowart is also pacing the team in stolen bases (15-for-16), runs (30) and hits (51)
  • Mia Leone has a team-best 34 RBI.
  • Baileigh Pitts and Mia Leone have each hit five home runs.
  • Long (118.0) and Emery Bales (102.1) have tossed the most innings on the pitching staff, as Bales has a 4.79 ERA.
  • Long has kept batters to a .267 hitting percentage in her 27 appearances this season.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will conclude the SoCon regular season with a three-game series in Birmingham, Alabama, against Samford from May 2-3 at Samford Softball Stadium.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, with the first game beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. CT and then face off in the final game on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. CT.
