Four Home Runs Propels Baseball Past The Citadel, 9-4

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team took game three against The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe The Citadel, 9–4, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on Sunday afternoon. Three Spartans mashed home runs in the contest as Jacob Budzik led both teams in RBIs with five on the day.

The Bulldogs took the early advantage as they scored two runs in the first inning and then added another run in the second frame to take the quick 3-0 lead. However, the Spartans rallied as a Jacob Mueller and Jacob Dilley both singled to set up Budzik for the RBI opportunity. The senior cleanup hitter mashed a 2-1 hanging curveball over the left field wall to tie the game at three all. After a quiet fourth inning, the Spartans struck again with three runs in the frame as Budzik clobbered his second home run of the day, a two-run shot, to give UNCG the 5-3 lead. Later in the inning, freshman Wyatt Bush, in his third career start, stepped into the batter's box and pulled the ball over the right field wall to extend the lead to 7-3.

The Spartan offense continued to hum in the sixth inning, as Mueller smacked a two-run home run of his own to push the score to 8-3. The Bulldogs pulled a run in the bottom half of the inning to make it 8-4, but reliever John Horton shut the door the rest of the way striking out eight in five innings of work. The Spartans capped off the game with one more run in the top of the eighth with a Jake Barbour RBI sacrifice fly as Horton ended the bottom of the eighth and ninth frames with no hits allowed to end the game at 9-4.
