Baseball Blasts Past Davidson, 16-3

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team crushed in-state foe Davidson, 16–3, at UNCG Baseball Stadium on Tuesday night. Jacob Budzik once again had a big game with the bat, knocking in five RBIs in back-to-back games.

Davidson got the scoring started early in the top of the first as a runner on third crossed home plate on a groundout to put the Wildcats up 1-0.  UNCG got the offense rolling with seven runs in the bottom of the third inning. The rally started with a Jake Mueller RBI walk with the bases loaded to tie up the game. Jacob Dilley followed up with an RBI single to give the Spartans the 2-1 lead. After a wild pitch scored Brantley Truitt, 3-1, Budzik stepped up to the plate and mashed a three-run home run, his seventh of the season and third in two games, to extend the lead to 6-1. Shortstop Ethan Brittain capped off the inning with an RBI single to put the game at 7-1 after three innings of action.

The Spartan offensive onslaught continued in the fourth frame as UNCG put another seven spot on the Wildcats. Mueller continued his hot hitting with an RBI single to start off the inning. Budzik followed up with two RBIs after a double down the left field line which gave UNCG the 10-1 advantage. The Spartans then scored two runs on back-to-back fielding errors by the Davidson defense to push the score to 12-1. Freshmen Brittain and Wyatt Bush closed out the fourth with an RBI apiece, 14-1. The Wildcats put up two runs in the top of the fifth after two walks but the Spartans responded in the bottom half with a Dilley solo shot, his seventh of the season, then a run scored on a wild pitch for a 16-3 scoreline. Dylan Smith was called out of the bullpen in the top of the sixth and sat down six consecutive hitters to end the game at 16-3 in the seventh inning.
