Hernandez Leads Men’s Golf in Round One of SoCon Championships

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team wrapped up round one of The 2026 Southern Conference (SoCon) Championships on Monday at Solina Country Club in Columbia, South Carolina.

TEAM
  • UNCG carded a five-over-par (289) in the first round to sit in seventh place.
  • Chattanooga is pacing the eight-team leaderboard after notching a nine-under-par (275) in the opening round.
  • Western Carolina is following closely behind in second place with a four-under-par (280).
  • The Spartans are fourth in the tournament in par five holes with a 4.70 average and in birdies with 17.
  • UNCG is pacing Wofford after the Terriers posted a 10-over-par (294) to sit in eighth place.
INDIVIDUAL
  • Kelvin Hernandez is pacing the Spartans and sitting in third place on the 40-player leaderboard after notching a season-best four-under-par (67) in round one.
  • Hernandez was one of six players to record an eagle with his coming on the 11th hole. In addition, he is tied for first in the field with a 4.00 average on par five holes and tied for second with six birdies.
  • Jake Lewis is following in behind to be tied for 19th place with a one-over-par (72) on the day.
  • Dax Isbell recorded a two-over-par (73) to be tied for 24th place.
  • B.J. Boyce follows in behind Isbell to stand tied for 32nd place with a six-over-par (77) on Monday.
  • Will Guidry rounds out the scorecard for the Spartans with a nine-over-par (80) to be tied for 39th place. He is tied for fourth in the tournament with a 4.25 average on par five holes.
  • Isbell and Hernandez are both tied for third in the field with a 2.80 average on par three holes.
  • Camden Braidech of Chattanooga and Nathan Trodd of Mercer are pacing the leaderboard in a tie for first place with a five-under-par (66).
