Men’s Tennis Enters Final Regular Season Stretch Against UNC Asheville and Chattanooga

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team will go on the road to close out the 2026 regular season. The Spartans will first travel to Asheville to take on UNC Asheville on Tuesday at The Asheville Racquet Club at 3:00 p.m.  The Spartans then travel to The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Chattanooga for its final regular season match on Saturday, at UTC Tennis Center at 12:00 p.m.

     SCOUTING THE SPARTANS             

  • The Spartans come into their final two matches of the season 6-13 overall and 2-4 in SoCon action.   

  • Most recently, UNCG fell to SoCon opponent Mercer, 5-2, on Wednesday.      

  • The Spartans secured the doubles point and freshman Hector Nissen defeated Amen Prince Gandonou, 6-4, 7-6, on court four. 

  • The Spartans are led by John Gabelic who has 10 singles wins this season.  

  • Tymofiy Khrystyuk and Nissen follow closely behind with nine singles victories apiece.  

  • Tymofiy Khrystyuk was named SoCon Player of the Week (March 17), which is the first of his career and first for the program since 2024.     

  • The Spartans defeated Belmont Abbey, 5-2, on Feb. 17, for the first home win of the season.        

  • The Spartans opened SoCon action 1-0 with a 5-2 victory over The Citadel on Feb. 14.              

  • Gabelic captured his 100th career win against North Carolina Central on Feb. 7.            

  • The Spartans competed in four tournaments in the 2025 fall season.                               

  • UNCG hosted the Spartan Fall Invitational from Sept. 19-20 at the UNCG Tennis Courts in Greensboro, North Carolina.                 

  • As a team, the Spartans won 20 singles matches over the three-day event.                 

  • UNCG took part in the Davidson Fall Invitational at Davidson Tennis Courts from Sept. 26-27. In the two-day event, Gabelic won all three matches to win his draw.                

  • At the ITA Carolina Regionals, Oct. 16-Oct. 19, the tandem of Gabelic and William Elmers made it to the Round of 16 on Saturday before losing to South Carolina.               

  • At the SoCon Masters Qualifier, Devon Moskowitz won his singles draw qualifying for the main tournament held in the spring.               

  • In the Wake Forest Invitational, senior Andrew Black won his singles draw, while the Spartans captured 15 victories across the three-day event in all competitions.                  

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS 

  • UNC Asheville comes into the match 11-7 overall.  

  • Most recently, the Bulldogs were defeated by fellow Big South opponent Gardner-Webb, 7-0, on Friday.       

  • Daniel Franco-Key leads the team in singles wins with 11.   

  • The duo of Copper Harrison and Griffin Lovern are the Bulldogs' top pair, going 10-5 this season.   

SCOUTING THE MOCS 

  • Chattanooga comes into the final match of the 2026 season 9-11 overall and 3-3 in SoCon play. 

  • Most recently, the Mocs fell to No. 60 ETSU, 7-0, on Thursday in Johnson City, Tennessee.  

  • Chattanooga enters the last home match of the season on a three-match losing skid.  

  • Julian Frazzmann leads the team with 19 singles wins on the season.  

  • Frazzmann and Krisof Kinces are the Mocs' top duo team with 15 victories in doubles matches.
