GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team, who received the No. 1 seed is set to compete in The 2026 Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament. The Spartans will begin the postseason with a quarterfinal matchup with No. 4 Wofford on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The Spartans are entering the tournament with a 39-17 overall record and a 17-4 SoCon mark after securing their seventh SoCon Regular Season title last Saturday in a 3-0 win over Samford. The Terriers come into the matchup 34-17 and 10-11 in the SoCon after defeating No. 5 Chattanooga today, 2-0, to advance to the quarterfinals.
UNCG went 2-1 in its series against Wofford in the regular season at Hope Field in Spartanburg, South Carolina, from April 11-12. The Spartans fell in game one to the Terriers, 7-3, but picked up the next two wins with scores of 3-1, 8-6.
The winner of the Spartans versus the Terriers will move on to a semifinal game set for Saturday at 10:00 a.m. versus No. 2 Samford/No. 3 Western Carolina/No. 6 ETSU.
UNCG is 45-47 overall in SoCon Tournament games. The Spartans have secured three SoCon Tournament Titles in program history (2018, 2021, 2023).
With the 39-17 overall record, this is the eighth straight 30-win season for the Spartans, with the exception of the 2020 COVID-19 season and 11
th time under the direction of 14-year Head Coach

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
- UNCG went 2-1 in its final series of the 2026 regular season at Samford in Birmingham, Alabama.
- The Spartans defeated the Bulldogs 3-0 in game one, earning their 15th shutout of the season, which is the most since 2000 when UNCG had 19. This victory also gave the Spartans their seventh SoCon Regular Season title.
- In game two where Samford claimed the 6-5 win, UNCG recorded 10 hits, which is the 21st time this season the Spartans have tallied double-figure base knocks.
- UNCG claimed the final game in the series, 8-5 and recorded its 22nd game this season with double-digit hits, recording 14 in the win.
- Kaylyn Belfield surpassed 200 career hits in game three, bringing her total to 201.
RUNDOWN ON THE SPARTANS
- UNCG was voted as the favorite in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll ahead of the 2026 season. The Spartans earned four first-place votes as well as 43 points.
- Belfield and Macy Michael were voted to the Preseason All-SoCon First Team. Salem Ward, juniors Samantha Beck and Betsy Eatmon and sophomore Hadley Gardner all earned Preseason All-SoCon Second Team recognition.
- The Spartans return Belfield, who led the Spartans with a UNCG single season batting average record of .431.
- UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 39-18 overall record and a 14-6 SoCon mark.
- UNCG has had two 10-game winning streaks, the first was from Feb. 13-24 and the second stretch was from March 13-29.
- The Spartans won every SoCon series this season, accomplishing the feat for the first time since 2022.
- UNCG has collected four SoCon weekly accolades this year: Nya South (April 27) & Brooklyn Shroyer (Feb. 23, March 9 & March 23).
- The Spartans dominated the 2026 postseason awards ahead of the SoCon Tournament, featuring 11 different accolades including Breneman notching her fifth SoCon Coach of the Year, Shroyer being named SoCon Pitcher of the Year & to the All-SoCon First Team and Avery Bouquin earning SoCon Freshman of the Year, All-SoCon Second Team & All-Freshman Team.
- In addition, Macy Michael and Belfield were named to the All-SoCon First Team, while Rhyann Jones, Laney Deane, Rylie Williams and South were selected to the All-SoCon Second Team. Jazmin Mejia was also voted to the SoCon All-Freshman Team.
- Shroyer leads the SoCon in ERA (1.58), hits allowed per seven innings (4.01), shutouts (9), strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.40), strikeouts (163), strikeouts per seven innings (8.1), victories (18) and WHIP (0.91).
- She ranks in the top-30 nationally in six categories: shutouts (3rd), hits allowed per seven innings (8th), WHIP (11th), ERA (12th), strikeouts (24th) and victories (27th)
- Bouquin is second in the SoCon in doubles (16) and doubles per game (0.31).
- Michael is third in the SoCon in doubles (14) and doubles per game (0.29).
- Belfield is third in the SoCon and 51st nationally with 69 hits. She is second on the team with a .381 batting average.
- Jones leads the league in walks allowed per seven innings (1.56) and is second with a 2.34 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP.
- Deane is third in the SoCon in doubles (14) and home runs per game (0.27).
- South leads the SoCon with a 0.64 walks per game average and second with a .503 on-base percentage and a .762 slugging percentage.
- The Spartans are leading the SoCon in doubles (90), doubles per game (1.61), ERA (2.22), hits allowed per seven innings (5.72), shutouts (8), strikeout-to-walk ratio (1.97), team strikeouts per seven innings (5.48), WHIP (1.22) and win-loss percentage (.696).
- UNCG ranks in the top-50 nationally among nine categories: ERA (8th), hits allowed per seven innings (12th), WHIP (14th), doubles (21st), strikeout-to-walk ratio (39th), win-loss percentage (40th), shutouts (41st), hits (42nd) and doubles per game (49th).
RUNDOWN ON WOFFORD
- Wofford concluded the regular season fourth in the SoCon, as the 2026 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll predicted.
- Brianna Stanley and Desirae Devine were selected to the All-SoCon First Team, while Addison Lucier was named to the All-SoCon Second Team ahead of the postseason.
- Kaytlin Greenwood is pacing the league in assists (118) and assists per game (2.36).
- Stanley paces the conference with a .414 batting average, 61 RBI and a 1.22 RBI per game average.
- Lucier is leading the SoCon with a .551 on-base percentage and a 0.33 sacrifice bunts per game average.
- Devine has been successful stealing 25-of-28 bases this season.
- Grace Parker is leading the conference with a 0.10 triples per game average.
- The Terriers are pacing the SoCon in batting average (.325), fielding percentage (.973), on-base percentage (.415), stolen bases per game (1.78), total sacrifice bunts (56), total stolen bases (89), triples (16), triples per game (0.32) and walks (194).
- Wofford concluded the 2025 season 30-22 overall and 11-8 in the SoCon.
