SoCon Announces Women's Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
Kasey McIlvaine of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league on Wednesday.

McIlvaine is the second SoCon Women's Golfer of the Week, as UNCG's Elle Burnette earned the honor during the first week of recognition on Sept. 2.

McIlvaine earned a share of the individual title at the two-day, three-round Pirate Collegiate Classic, hosted by East Carolina, at Greenville Country Club. She tied with NC State golfer Marie Madsen. The senior posted round scores of 69-71-68 finishing eight-under-par (208).

This was McIlvaine's first collegiate win. The Raleigh, North Carolina, native totaled 12 birdies during the tournament and fired an eagle on the 18th hole during round one. The third round was also her best performance this season so far and matched her low round score as a Spartan.

"Winning my first college golf tournament this week was truly a dream come true," stated McIlvaine. "Greenville Country Club has had a special place in my heart since junior golf, so having a breakthrough moment here means the world. My coaches, teammates and family have poured so much believe into me, and having their support makes this moment even sweeter."

The Spartans took home second place out of 13 teams at the tournament, for their best finish this season. UNCG carded round scores of 291-287-282 for a team score of four-under-par (860). The Blue & Gold's six-under-par (282) in the third round was the best team score during the third round. The Spartans led the tournament with a 4.12 average in par fours and was third with 51 birdies.
