GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team was unable to get past The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Western Carolina, as the Catamounts walked away with a 1-0 win on Thursday evening at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
The first half was balanced and there were only six total shots between the two teams with UNCG having the edge, 4-2. The Spartans' best opportunity came in the 34
th minute off a corner kick by
Madison Bass. The ball ended up being punched out by the Catamount's goalkeeper but found the feet of
Rina Ogimoto who ripped a volley on target.
The second half was also balanced, until a defensive miscue by the Spartans at 74:11 ended up going the way of the Catamounts for a 1-0 lead. Following the goal, UNCG heightened the intensity as the Spartans looked to put a tally on the board. Ogimoto had another great chance with a laser that went just right of the goal post at 80:37. Western Carolina put another shot on the board in the 83
rd minute, but neither team was able to find the back of the net in the time remaining. The Catamounts secured the 1-0 win even with UNCG having the upper hand in shots, 8-6, and corner kicks, 6-2.
