GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team will open the 2026 Southern Conference (SoCon) schedule by hosting the Western Carolina Catamounts on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday at 3:00 p.m. inside Bodford Arena.
 
The Spartans went 1-1 against the Catamounts last season, falling 1-3 in Cullowhee on Oct. 4, 2025, but securing the straight-set victory in Greensboro on Oct. 31, 2025. UNCG is 29-37 in the all-time series against Western Carolina.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

• UNCG concluded the non-conference schedule with the best winning percentage in the SoCon at .636 for a 7-4 overall mark.
• The Spartans most recently went 2-1 in the LD&B Insurance Invitational, hosted by James Madison. The team fell to the Dukes (1-3) but secured neutral site victories over George Mason (3-2) and Delaware State (3-2).
• In the team's win over the Hornets on Sunday, junior outside hitter Allie Sweet broke the single match program record in kills with 36. The previous record was 34 kills held by Becky Moore against Chattanooga on Oct. 3, 1997.
• Sweet was tabbed SoCon Offensive Player of the Week this past Monday after notching 80 kills and a 5.71 kills per set average last weekend. In addition, she recorded a double-double in all three matches, marking 29 in her career and six this season.
• Sweet stands out in the top-10 among national rankings, including: attacks per set (1^st/13.47), total attacks (2^nd/606), points per set (5^th/5.48), points (2^nd/246.5), total kills (3^rd/212) and kills per set (7^th/4.71).
• Izora Gragg has been named SoCon Setter of the Week twice this season (Aug. 31 & Sept. 7), as she leads the league in assists per set (9.91) and is second in total assists (446). Her 446 total assists this season puts her at 16^th nationally.
• Connore' Siler-Nixon paces the team in the middle and is second in the conference with a 1.11 blocks per set average and third with 50 total blocks this season.
• Chloe Nussbaum is the leading libero for the Spartans and sixth in the SoCon with 162 total digs this year.
• As a team, the Spartans are second in the SoCon in aces per set (1.71), assists per set (12.09), hitting percentage (.211) and kills per set (13.13).
• Sweet and Nussbaum both hit career milestones in the team's matchup at Clemson on Sept. 4. Sweet paced the Spartans with 16 kills to secure 1,000 career kills, while after leading UNCG with 19 digs, Nussbaum reached 1,000 career digs.
• UNCG recorded a 17-12 overall record and a 9-7 mark in the SoCon last season.
• UNCG was selected to finish fourth in the 2026 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll with 50 total points. 
• Sweet was named to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team after being selected to the All-SoCon First Team last season.
• The 2026 roster features 12 returners and five newcomers, including four freshmen and one transfer.
• Head Coach Trent Dunahoo is in his first season at the helm of the UNCG volleyball team and fourth season overall with the program. The 3-1 win over Northeastern on Aug. 29 marked his first win as a head coach.

ABOUT THE CATAMOUNTS

• Western Carolina comes to Greensboro with a 4-9 record on the non-conference slate.
• The Catamounts are on a four-match losing streak after most recently falling to USC Upstate in back-to-back contests last Thursday and Friday.
• Western Carolina went 8-21 overall and 3-13 in SoCon play last season. The team defeated The Citadel, 3-0, in the SoCon Tournament First Round, but fell to ETSU, 0-3, in the SoCon Quarterfinals to conclude the season.
• The team was picked to finish eighth in the 2026 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll with 28 total points. 
• Senior setter Katie Boney was named to the 2026 SoCon Volleyball Preseason All-Conference Team.
• As a team, the Catamounts are currently second in the league in assists (580), kills (623), service aces (82) and total blocks (102.0).
• Boney is pacing the SoCon in total assists (495) and second in service aces (21).
• Tatum Sharp stands out defensively for the Catamounts with 58 total blocks to lead the conference.
• Head Coach Karen Glover is in her 16^th season at the helm of the Catamount volleyball program.
