GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team will continue its non-conference slate at the Clemson Invitational from Friday to Sunday at Jervey Gym in Clemson, South Carolina.
 
The Spartans will face host school Clemson on Friday at 6:00 p.m., the team will then take on App State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and then conclude the three-day event with East Carolina on Sunday at noon.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

• UNCG recorded a 17-12 overall record and a 9-7 mark in The Southern Conference (SoCon) last season.
• The fifth-seeded Spartans defeated No. 4 Chattanooga in a SoCon Tournament Quarterfinal match, advancing to the semifinals for the first time since 2017. 
• The season was concluded with a 3-1 battle against No. 1 ETSU in the SoCon Semifinals.
• UNCG was selected to finish fourth in the 2026 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll with 50 total points. 
• The 2026 roster features 12 returners and five newcomers, including four freshmen and one transfer.
• Junior outside hitter Allie Sweet was named to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team after being selected to the All-SoCon First Team last season.
• The team went 1-1 in the first weekend of play, falling to South Carolina on Aug. 28, 3-0, but securing a 3-1 win over Northeastern on Aug. 29.
• Izora Gragg picked up her first SoCon Setter of the Week nod this past Monday after averaging 10.71 assists in week one.
• Sweet and Kendall Lanclos paced the Spartans on the outside last weekend with 29 and 24 kills, respectively.
• Chloe Nussbaum was the leading libero with 19 digs across the seven sets.
• Freshman Hailey Clifton stood out at the net with 7.0 total blocks, while graduate transfer Akila Hardie and sophomore Connore' Siler-Nixon notched six total blocks apiece.
• Head Coach Trent Dunahoo is in his first season at the helm of the UNCG volleyball team and fourth season overall with the program. The 3-1 win over Northeastern on Aug. 29 marked his first win as a head coach.

ABOUT THE TIGERS

• Clemson went 2-1, hosting the Big Orange Bash in its first weekend of play. The team defeated Charleston Southern (3-1) and SoCon foe Western Carolina (3-1) but fell to Butler (2-3).
• Maddie Anspaugh paced the Tigers in kills last week with 52, while Katherine Sandt was the leading setter with 130 assists in the first three matches.
• Claire Luoma with 48 digs and Lina Merz with 12 total blocks led the team defensively.
• Anspaugh was tabbed ACC Freshman of the Week, while Sandt was named ACC Co-Setter of the Week, announced by the conference this past Monday.
• Clemson was selected to finish 14^th in the 2026 Preseason ACC Volleyball Coaches' Poll with 89 total points.
• The Tigers concluded the 2025 season 18-14 overall and 6-14 in the ACC.
• Head Coach Jackie Simpson Kirr is in her sixth season at the helm of the Clemson volleyball program.

ABOUT THE MOUNTAINEERS

• App State went 2-1 at the Charlotte Invitational last week, falling to North Carolina A&T (2-3), but securing wins over Charlotte (3-2) and Bryant (3-0).
• Brooke Doherty led the team with 42 kills, while Raegan Richardson tossed up 113 assists.
• MeMe Davis was the leading libero with 58 digs, while Chelsea Gilmore stood out at the net with a dominating 17.0 total blocks.
• Head Coach Chad Sutton is in his second season at the helm of the App State volleyball program after serving as the head coach at SoCon foe Mercer from 2023-25.
• The Mountaineers were picked to finish fourth on the 2026 Sun Belt Preseason Poll of the East Division.
• App State concluded the 2025 season 15-12 overall and 6-10 in the Sun Belt.

ABOUT THE PIRATES

• East Carolina comes to Clemson after going 3-0 hosting the Pirate Invitational last weekend.
• The Pirates defeated Bethune-Cookman (3-0), Hampton (3-0) and Radford (3-1) in Greenville, North Carolina.
• Ellie Pate was the leading hitter with 45 kills in the first three matches.
• Taryn Gilreath was the standout setter with 101 assists.
• Allison Brooklyn and Aulie Huff stood out defensively with 32 digs and 11.0 total blocks, respectively. 
• East Carolina concluded the 2025 campaign 12-15 overall and 4-12 in the American Conference.
• Head Coach Adler Augustin is in his seventh season leading the East Carolina volleyball program.
• The Pirates were selected to finish eighth in the 2026 American Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll with 71 points.
• Angeles Alderete and Gilreath were voted to the 2026 American Conference Preseason All-Conference Team.

The Spartans return to Greensboro for the Central Carolina Clash from Sept. 11-12. UNCG will first take on crosstown rival North Carolina A&T on Friday, Sept. 11 at 6:00 p.m. at the Corbett Sports Center. The team will then open the 2026 home slate with a doubleheader against Davidson at noon and North Carolina Central at 6:00 p.m. inside Bodford Arena. All regular season home matches are free admission.
