UNCG Volleyball Swept By Furman, 3-0

Greenville, SC ­ The UNC Greensboro volleyball team was swept, 3-0, by Southern Conference rival Furman Tuesday night at Timmons Arena. The loss moves the Spartans to 4-20 overall and 2-10 in the Southern Conference, while the Lady Paladins improved to 14-10 overall and 9-3 in SoCon play.

The Spartans nearly took an early advantage in game one, but Furman rallied behind Amber Montague, who recorded 18 kills, to hold off UNCG, 31-29. LaJean Morrow (Jr./Asheville, NC) and Dawn Bright (Sr./Aberdeen, NC) managed to keep the Spartans close in the next two games, however, it was not enough to overtake the Lady Paladins. Furman edged UNCG 30-27 in game two before taking game three, 30-20.

Amber Montague recorded 18 kills and a .571 hitting percentage to lead the Furman Lady Paladin volleyball team. Montague was joined in double figure kills by Abby Simon (11) and Julia Fredrickson (10). Simon (Simpsonville, S.C.) also contributed 10 digs, while Laura Bush (Kingsport, Tenn.) added seven kills, eight digs and five total blocks.


The Spartans were led by LaJean Morrow with 12 kills and Dawn Bright with 11 kills. Rebekah Faulise (So./Moorsville,NC) recorded a match-high 15 digs for the Spartans

UNCG returns to action when it hosts Western Carolina on Saturday, October 26 at 7 pm.
