NORFOLK, VA - The UNC Greensboro women's soccer team opened up the 2002 season no different than the 2001 season, blanking Old Dominion, 1-0. 

ODU goalkeeper Stephanie Miller kept the Lady Monarchs in the game with several key stops. Despite raining conditions, Miller registered eight saves.

The Spartans broke up a scoreless game just four minutes into the second half on a goal by Cara Hammond. Hammond knocked in a tally when a shot slid off the left post over Miller to her on the right side.

Both teams had several chances in the first half but sent errant attempts over an open goal. ODU, who outshot UNCG 14-13, pressed hard offensively throughout the match but couldn't find a tally. Angie Rudy made six saves on her way to earning the shutout for UNCG.
