Volleyball Loses To Furman, 3-1

GREENSBORO, NC – The UNC Greensboro volleyball team dropped its second consecutive Southern Conference match, 3-1, Tuesday evening in Fleming Gymnasium.

The Spartans (2-10, 0-2 SoCon) got off to a slow start dropping game one 30-18. In game two, UNCG regrouped jumping out to a 9-5 lead, but Furman (6-7, 1-1 SoCon) answered, pulling to within one point of the Spartans at 24-23. UNCG was able to hold to win the game, 30-26, behind a strong performance at the net by Holly Long who recorded eight assisted blocks. The Paladins started quickly in game three with a 5-0 lead that forced the Spartans to take a timeout. After the timeout UNCG rallied to take the lead, 7-6, but they could not complete the comeback as they dropped the game 30-22. Furman squeaked by the Spartans in game four, 30-27, to take the match.

Senior Dawn Bright led the Spartans with 10 kills and 8 digs, while junior LaJean Morrow added 10 kills. Sophomore Juliet Pack continued to pace the Spartans with 30 assists.

Leading the way for the Paladins was Amber Montague with a game-high 19 kills. Abby Simon and Laura Bush each recorded 14 kills.

UNCG will return to action Friday as they visit Western Carolina at 7 pm. The Spartans will also face Chattanooga on Saturday at 2 pm before returning home on Tuesday to face Davidson at 7 pm.
