Greensboro, NC - The UNC Greensboro men's soccer played to a 2-2 stalemate with Georgia Southern in its 2003 home opener Saturday night at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

Georgia Southern (1-4-1 overall, 0-0-1 Southern Conference) scored first in the match as Tony Moffat scored off an assist from Brad Mitchum at the 17:22 mark of the first half. The Eagles then struck again in the 27th minute as Tyler Mullen scored off a direct kick.

Trailing 2-0 at the intermission, UNCG (3-2-1 overall, 1-0-1 SoCon) came back to the pitch with renewed intensity. James Goodman (Jr./Palm Coast, FL) picked up the first goal of the evening for the Spartans on a penalty kick at the 53:47 mark. Goodman calmly buried the shot in the bottom left corner of the net past Adam Webb. The goal was Goodman's second on the season.

With just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation, Scott Jones (Fr./Dallas, TX) scored his third goal of the season to even the score at two goals apiece. Neither team would score in the final 32 minutes of play.

In a game where emotions ran high, the two squads combined for 33 fouls, six yellow cards and one red card. The Spartans were flagged for offsides 13 times on the evening.

"I am extremely disappointed with our first 45 minutes of play this evening," head coach Michael Parker said. "Georgia Southern deserves the credit. They came out with tremendous commitment and fire in this game. We did pick up our intensity in the second half and it showed. Now we have to learn from this game and turn our focus to the College of Charleston."

UNCG returns to action against next Saturday, September 27, against conference rival College of Charleston. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. Georgia Southern will host Jacksonville Thursday, September 25, at 7 pm.
