TOLEDO, OHIO – The UNCG volleyball team (1-7) dropped a pair of matches in the opening day of competition at the Clarion Hotel Westgate Rocket Classic, hosted by the University of Toledo. The Spartans lost a tightly contested match to Dayton, 3-0, while falling in the nightcap to the host Rockets, 3-0.

Dayton (4-3) got 11 kills from Christy Utnage and 25 digs from Adrienne Green in the 32-30, 30-24, 30-26 win over the Spartans in the day's opening match. Spartan sophomore Hilary Overby paced the UNCG attack with a match-high 17 kills, for a .262 hitting percentage. Freshman Alysia Rosvold added ten kills for the Spartans who finished the match with a .210 hitting percentage. Senior Rebekah Faulise anchored the UNCG defense with a team-high 20 kills, while Overby and Adrian Hicks had nine each.

Toledo (8-0) got 12 kills from Corrie Magnus and 11 from Kate Bean in the 30-22, 30-21, 30-19 win over UNCG in the nightcap. Overby paced the Spartans with seven kills, while Rosvold added six. Rosvold also lead the Spartan defense with nine digs.

UNCG will take on Oakland at 10 a.m. and UW-Green Bay at 5:30 p.m. in the final day of action at the Clarion Hotel Westgate Rocket Classic.
