ROCK HILL, SC UNC Greensboro pushed across two runs in the first inning and that was all the Spartans needed for a 2-0 victory over Gardner-Webb in the third and final day of the Winthrop Invitational on Sunday at Terry Field.

Junior Jennifer Bonilla doubled in classmate Adrian Audley, who reached on a lead-off single, to give UNCG (7-13) a 1-0 lead. Senior Kelly Allen followed with a single to center to plate Bonilla for what proved to be the final run of the game.

Junior right-hander Vanessa Oakes made the lead stand up as she cruised through seven innings, allowing a mere three hits and struck out six to post the clubs first shutout of the season and seventh of her career.

Heather Branche went 2-for-3 with a double to pace the Spartans seven-hit attack.

Senior Gwen Johnson was named to the All-Tournament team after hitting .538 with three home runs, seven runs and eight RBI.
