CULLOWHEE, NC – The UNC Greensboro women's soccer team defeated Western Carolina, 2-0, Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans raised their record to 5-3-1 overall, 2-0-0 in the Southern Conference. UNCG is unbeaten in its last 12 SoCon matches going back to the start of last year. UNCG is 11-0-1 in that span. The string is 15 straight against SoCon competition, including three wins in the SoCon Tournament last season. The Catamounts dropped to 5-6-0 overall, 0-2-0 in the conference.
Junior Katelynn Donovan scored her first goal as a Spartan in the 29th minute. After a quick pass from freshman Jenn Partenheimer, Donovan was able to slip the ball past WCU's Caitlin Williams and into the bottom left corner.
UNCG's second goal came with nearly five minutes left of the match. Freshman Kristin Player scored fifth goal of the season off a pass from senior Karla Davis.
The Spartans held a 12-8 advantage in shots for the match.
“It's not easy to come up here and get the win,” commented head coach Eddie Radwaski, “The girls really rallied together, defended well, and didn't give Western Carolina many scoring opportunities.”
“We played well in the first half and I wish we could have gotten another goal to make things a bit easier, but all-in-all the win really finished off a good weekend.”
The Spartans continue their conference run on Thursday at 7 pm in Tennessee as they take on Chattanooga.
