The Spartans scored three times in the first 18 minutes to put the game out of reach early. UNCG moved to 13-4-1 on the season and remained atop the Southern Conference standings with a 8-0-1 mark in league play. Georgia Southern, which is on the bubble for making the eight-team conference tournament, dropped to 4-9-3 overall, 2-6-1 in the league.
Attayek started the scoring just 4:01 into the match. Nicole Danford found Katelynn Donovan on the left side of the box. A one-touch pass from Donovan found Attayek for her third goal of the season.
Jennifer Bronson made it 2-0 just 3:51 later. Attayek found her at the penalty stripe and Bronson chipped it home for her first tally of the season.
Donovan got into the act at 17:49 when Attayek hit a cross into the box and the senior from Melville, NY got a head onto it and put into the back of the net for a three-goal lead.
The Eagles got one back at 55:28 when Ashley Toussaint, the Southern Conference's scoring leader, tallied her 12th goal of the season. She converted a UNCG giveaway into a one-on-one with the keeper and made it a 3-1 game.
But Jamiey Etten scored her first of the season at 71:53 off of a Danford feed and Donovan added her 11th of the year at 80:06 for good measure. The Spartans outshot the Eagles 22-2 on the night and had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
UNCG will host Davidson on Sunday at 2 pm for Senior Day. A Spartan win and a Western Carolina loss or tie would wrap up UNCG's third consecutive Southern Conference regular season title.
