Storylines
• UNCG tries to snap a three-game losing skid Wednesday. The Spartans have struggled from behind the three-point arc in their last two games, shooting just 12-for-57 (21 percent). At one point in Sunday's loss at Furman, the Spartans missed 15 consecutive three-point field goal attempts.
• The Spartans have suffered four of their six conference losses in the final 38 seconds of the game. Last week, UNCG had two chances to tie or beat Georgia Southern and Wofford, respectively, at the end of regulation time.
• UNCG coach Mike Dement won his 300th game at The Citadel, one week after he became the program's winningest coach with the win at Elon, passing Bob McEvoy (92-96) for the school's most wins. Dement is 96-98 as UNCG's coach, including 41-42 in Dement's second tenure as Spartan head coach (24-24 vs. SoCon teams). Now in his 21st season as a head coach, Dement is 301-285 overall.
• Kyle Hines now has 2,007 career points. To date, 440 players have ever scored 2,000 points in a career. Hines is the sixth player to achieve the milestone this year. He broke the school's all-time scoring record held by Jay Joseph (1,646) in the loss at Missouri State. At Georgia Southern, Hines broke the Southern Conference's all-time record for blocked shots. He now sits at 322 for his career. At The Citadel, he broke Bruce Shaw's school record career rebounds (933, 1968-73). Hines begins play tonight at 976 career rebounds. The next milestone on the radar are the chance at 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds - a combination that just 95 players in all of Division I NCAA history have ever achieved.
• Dwayne Johnson is closing in on 400 assists for his career. He enters tonight with 388 after having recorded 24 assists in the last five games. He leads the team this season with 89 (averaging 4.2 per game). Ten times this season he has had five or more assists in a game, making for a total of 33 times in his career.
• Kyle Hines now has a 72-game streak of scoring 10 or more points, the longest current streak in the country. His 42 double-doubles ranks second among active players (11 this season) and he ranks in the Top 10 among active players in career points, rebounds and blocks. This season, he ranks 10th in blocks per game at 3.1 (through Monday's games according to Stats, Inc.).
• The month of February has not been kind to the Spartans over the last few years. Over the last four seasons, UNCG is now 9-17 in the month of February (7-6 at home). Last year, UNCG was 4-4 in February, the team's first .500 or better record in the month since 2003-04.
• UNCG's probable starting line-up has been used in 18 of 22 games this season. Last year, the Spartans used 12 different line-ups, none of which started more than nine of the 30 games.
• This past week, Kyle Hines picked up two more "firsts". He is the first player in UNCG history to record 400 points in each of his four seasons and the first to record 200 rebounds in each of his four seasons.
